Naomi stared at the door, mesmerized by that woman’s candor. Mysterious hunk chuckled that velvety laugh and beamed, “I’m sure we just missed him.” They laughed until they were in tears. Of course Naomi adding the bit about the mailbox made it that much better. Then a thought occurred to Naomi.
“You live around here? New, maybe?”
She flipped her hair and bit down on her bottom lip.
“I’ve never seen you.”
Mysterious Hunk continued beaming at Naomi.
“Yep. Third floor, Apt 21. So, if you ever get bored or, just want some company? You could come…hangout?” He scratched his head awkwardly, “I’m sorry, my game has severely suffered since my breakup.”
Naomi’s jaw hit the floor, “what? Somebody broke up with you? She must be like, Rihanna.”
Mysterious Hunk tilted his head and smiled through slanted eyes. And the weight of what her dumb mouth just blurted out was not lost on her.
“Cause you know…it’s hard out here for a pimp.”
She started to mumble the words to the song until Mysterious Hunk doubled over with laughter.
She may not be the smoothest catch, but damn, sure was the funniest, she thought to herself.
As if on queue, Mysterious Hunk stopped laughing and gave her the most peculiar look. One that had her pinned to her spot on the sidewalk. He squinted his amber eyes and looked at her with sudden curiosity.
She almost fainted. She had to catch her breath.
Damn body parts betraying me again. Wait no, I don’t about this living, God-like specimen of a man I’ve just met today.
He doubled over in laughter again, this time holding his sides and she was bewildered by the scene taking place. What the heck was the guy’s deal anyway?
I could fart and not feel a thing as far as I’m concerned. Though, I won’t do that. Nice to know my mouth can shut up long enough for me to get a thought in.
He stopped laughing immediately and just stared at her. The way he was staring…it’s like somebody was seeing her for the first time. She didn’t know how to feel. But immediately,
Her mind went to Charlie.
Without saying goodbye, she started towards her apartment before ADHD betrayed her as well.
He followed after her and Naomi didn’t turn to look as she belted out, “I appreciate you helping me with my groceries. Strangers here aren’t usually that nice without a fee.”
“Oh? Am I doing nice wrong then?” He beamed at her with a look of satisfaction.
She smirked.
“You’re doing nice just fine. It’s the rest of the world who needs to do better.”
He smiled at her, causing all sorts of contentment to fuse this muse of hers further.
Now, Naomi felt confused. How could she have such lustful feelings when she was with Charlie?
She had to get out of there!
“Mm, this is me…thanks for the hand!”
She quickly blew him a kiss to stop the words she wanted to scream out, and slammed the door in his face before her chest could tighten further.
Blushing. Now that, that was new.
