Chapter 10 - Give Him Time

1158 Words
Nana’s POV   Margaret stormed inside the house banging the door behind her “Aaron?.... Aaron!” shouts Margaret “Hello to you too Margaret” I said “Where’s my son Nana?… you’ve been spoiling him too much he never listens to me anymore… “ “Really Margaret? Are you forgetting that your son is already 25, He has a mind of his own.” “Yes he is, but still I’m his mother Nana… I still know what’s best for him?” “The mother that left him for five years on his own to protect herself form unreasonable pains” I blurted out, “Stop it Nana. It’s all in the past now… why don’t you go back in the kitchen where you belong” “I’m old now Margaret but still that heart of yours is still full of envy” I said. “why do you feel that to an old woman like me? Just because your son loves me more than she loves you?” “Nannies have their own place in the child life but never in the child’s heart” Margaret said, a slight smirk  on her face “I know my son Nana, Aaron will come back to me” “I never may interfere with my brother Jacob’s life even if you treated me only as Aaron’s Nanny. Remember this Margaret this is my house treat me with respect or you will never be welcome here…” “But Nana?” Margaret frowned “Okay.. okay.. I’m sorry…” “Now get yourself together and sit down before I would lose my patience with you” I may not like Margaret and her social life but I love her when she calms down.  She’s the woman that my brother loved his whole life, working hard to give her and Aaron a good life.  At least Jacob now is happy living with her after five years of separation.  It was her social life and Jacob’s workaholic nature that separates them.  Margaret accused him of having an affair with her personal assistant due to their constant travels and spending more time in the office. Emma, Jacob’s PA was young, beautiful in her own way which suits Jacob’s workaholic nature.  She stands by Jacob despite the fact that Margaret hated her.  But I believe Emma is very professional, she always put her work above her personal life.  She’s married now and had her own family.  Margaret still insists that Jacob did have an affair with Emma though Jacob still denies it, it still doesn’t suits the fact that she left Aaron under Jacob’s care.  And that’s the reason Jacob ask me to take care of Aaron while he runs his business. According to him if he would keep on chasing Margaret… their life would be in a complete mess. He chooses to spend his time on his business rather than running for Margaret.  Jacob never tell Aaron the real reason why her mom left all he know is that her mom needs to be on her own for a while.  I was the only witness of the father and son’s suffering longing for Margaret’s care.  The sleepless nights of Aaron, the needs for comfort when he is sick and the unanswered question of why her mother left them.  While Jacob spend most of his time either in the office or in the bar drinking his sorrows.  It lasted for almost a year when one night Aaron has a very high fever, he keeps mumbling his mom’s name and crying till he’s having difficulties in breathing, I called 911 to rush him to the nearest hospital. Aaron went directly to the intensive care unit of the hospital, it turn out that Aaron was suffering bacterial infection that leads to sepsis.  Jacob almost lost Aaron at that time, he had witnessed the difficulties his son has been through. Not only Aaron’s body suffered the pain during those times but also Jacob’s who never left her son’s side.  After that incident Jacob promised to give time to Aaron, despite his busy schedule.  Aaron’s welfare was listed first in his priority list. “I’m sorry Nana, but I just want to make sure Aaron will have a suitable wife-“she hugged me and kissed me on my cheeks “Margaret?” but I cut her off… “How could you do that to your son?... he’s old enough to choose the one he would spend the rest of his life with”… I said “Then what? Spend the rest of his life looking for Jessie? Who knows she might be dead by now and my son still grieving for the lost lo—“ I slapped  her face “Don’t you dare let Aaron hear you say that! And if you gonna say that again I will let the whole town know you wish for the death of poor Jessica” “Ysabelle?” “So you both come here to fetch your son now? Why didn’t you both do that before, so that Aaron and Jessica haven’t crossed their way?” my anger to Jacob and Margaret once again come out and the idea opposing to Aaron and Jessica as childhood sweethearts “You both know what happen to the two kids, seven years ago, Jessica will still be here and Aaron will have a peaceful life” I told my brother “Nana?” Margaret’s face flushed “so you’re blaming us now for Jessie’s mysterious disappearance?” “No!” I said “I blame you for digging that hole in your son’s heart… I blame you for making Aaron guilty for leaving Jessie alone in the worst time of her life.  Though we all know it’s not his fault but Aaron still believes that if he did not left Jessie she would still be here today enjoying her life, the guilt is giving him nightmares and it will not end by simply finding Jessica’s replacement…” both were stunned with what I said “Now if you want your son to be happy, give him space and let him find himself before he loose his mind” “So you do know where he is, right Nana?” asked Margaret “Stop it Margaret, Ysabelle’s right. If you want your son to be happy give him time” said Jacob
