Chapter 4

Recap- Before I knew what was happening Kai was lying down by a tree with blood running down his forehead.
Oh god. I ran over to Kai to see if he was okay. At first it looked like he was dead but I knew that vampires don't die that easily. I smacked Kai then he groaned.
"Seriously, what was that for?" Kai asked," Wait, you were worried you actually hurt me."
"No I wasn't," I denied.
"Then why...." Kai tried asking before I interrupted him.
"Don't even ask why," I said," Your father is the one..."
"Who killed your family," Kai interrupted me which made me really annoyed," Yeah, I know. Why do you think I'm out here helping you instead of telling him what you are. Look I'm not your enemy, I know what my father has done and I'm not okay with it."
That's when it hit me, if Kai is willing to help me expose his father then maybe he can also help me find my aunt. My aunt was the only one besides me who survived but we were separated after I turned 14. This couldn't be happening, it felt like my whole world was spinning.
"Hello." Kai said loudly," Earth to Amara."
"Ugh, what," I said annoyed," No need to be loud."
"I was trying to ask you something," Kai explained," But obviously you don't care so nevermind."
"What?" I asked.
"Nope, doesn't matter," Kai said while smirking. Now I knew he was just trying to annoy me.
"If all your gonna do is be annoying then leave," I said," And I'm not sorry about throwing you at a tree."
"Sure," Kai said," You know you felt bad about that."
For being a vampire this guy is really annoying which also means I can't freaking kill him. I looked over at Kai and noticed that he was holding his head. But vampires heal quickly so why would he still be hurt.
"I'm not a full vampire," Kai finally said after noticing I was looking at him," So I don't heal as quickly. But hey thanks for throwing me at a tree."
"Wait, What?" I asked," How's that even possible?"
"How's it possible for you to be a witch and a werewolf?" Kai asked," Exactly. Magic I guess."
Stunned by Kai's answer I walked up to him and handed him a pouch that I had in my pocket.
"Here," I said as he took the pouch," It should help heal your wound."
"Thanks," Kai said.
We sat in awkward silence for a good five minutes before we heard music, the town party. Time went by fast.
"Uh, are you going to the party?" Kai asked me nervously.
" I have to," I said," I need to find answers. You have to either way, your father's the Mayor."
"True," Kai said," Should we..."
"Get going, yes," I said.
I started walking but heard Kai whisper something so I turned to him.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Uhm," Kai stuttered," Y- yes. Let's go."
We walked in silence all the way till we got to the town party. The first person I saw was the Mayor and let me tell you it was so hard not to get angry at him. He noticed me and Kai and smiled then waved.
"You made it," Mayor Drew said," With my son."
Kai walked off without saying anything which made me curious on what was up with him.
"Yeah," I said," But I probably won't stay long. Parties aren't really my thing."
"Well while your here try to have some fun," Mayor Drew said," And if your wondering why Kai walking away I could go ask."
"No It's fine," I said.
I saw Mayor Drew walk over to Kai anyways. After they talked for a couple minutes Kai looked over to me then back to his dad. Could he be telling him about what I am? But why would he even do that. Some lady walked up to me and offered me a drink but I declined her, I don't trust this town or the people in it. I just stood in the corner while everyone else was dancing. They all looked so happy, that's what was weird but this was also the first party I remember going to so I of course didn't know what to do. It started getting darker so I thought to myself that I should go. As I was walking away I saw the Mayor talking to some guy who was holding a fancy knife. That knife could be the one that killed my parents. I couldn't stay any longer so I just left back to the campsite.
When I got to the campsite, I felt like I had just gotten my heart ripped out. I wanted to sleep but at the same time I didn't want to risk being killed. There was still ash on the ground but it looked like it was slowly fading away. Then I saw the spirit wolf again but this time it looked like the wolf was trying to tell me something or show me something. For a minute I didn't want to follow the wolf then I realized it was here for a reason so I followed it. I walked through the woods with the wolf to a tree. Then it felt like my magic and my wolf could sense something from the tree. I heard a quiet whisper that sounded like it was coming from the tree so I walked closer and put my hand on the tree which caused the spirit wolf to disappear.
All of a sudden I felt a rush of energy. It felt like I had just regained more power. But that wasn't it, I heard another whisper but this time I could understand what it was saying.
"Phoenix"
What could that even mean?
