Chapter 3

920 Words
I bolted. As soon as I realized what just happened, I ran out of there as fast as my wolf legs would take me. I ran to my house and up my room and paced. I couldn't let Ayden be my fated mate, he couldn't be my fated mate. He was meant to be Gena's, not mine. How could be he my fated mate? And how the hell did his voice ring through my head? Isn't that suppose to be the last of the mate bond stages? When we mate and he marks me and I, him? Something was wrong. I didn't know what, but I knew something wasn't quite right. I needed to talk to Enna and ask her what that was and how can it happen. 'Enna?' You there? I was met with silence, it's like I could feel her there but I couldn't quite reach her. 'Enna, answer me. I know you can hear me' I said through the mind link and I felt her shift, and as soon as she did. The pain came back fen fold and I screeched falling to my knees. 'Mate?' I heard Ayden's voice in my head and I cried out as soon as it did. 'You ne-need to c-c-come to me' He sounded like he was struggling just as I was and I groaned. I tried sitting up and I just managed to lean against the side of my bed. 'I- I can't' My response seemed to have triggered some kinda repellent cause instead of pain reaping my skull apart, I felt calmness overwhelm me. And I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, but that didn't last as this time I stood right up at the words that came next in my head. 'I can find you, I can sense where you are' I can't let Ayden find me, or find out that I'm his mate. I gotta do something, I gotta — run! With that I ran back downstairs and out the house, right into the middle of the woods. Maybe if he thought I was some rogue that he'd stop the search for me. But then again, I'm in his head and he can sense me, which means either I leave the pack for good or find a solution to cut the mate bond. 'Don't! The consequences of your actions will be severe to both you and Ayden' “Welcome back Enna” I said out loud. “Where did you go?” I asked even though I knew her answer. She connected with Ayden's wolf and she was probably talking to him too, which I hope isn't true because that could be catastrophic for both of us. 'Listen to me Xena, this mate bond isn't a mistake. The goddess knew what she was doing when she bonded you with him, if anything trust in that' “I can't have a mate Enna, let along an Alpha! You know why” I was getting frustrated and very on edge, I needed to get out of here before he—oh no. Footsteps, rapid heartbeat, that's all I could hear before he stood behind me. He was panting, which means he ran from the hall to the woods, which isn't far but running at rapid speed can tire a wolf. I didn't turn around, I couldn't. “Mate?” He's voice sounded confused, but with urgent need. “Listen, I know you're scared and I am too. Hell, I thought my mate would turn out to be the girl I've loved since childhood” He was approaching, I could sense him behind me. I could also smell his rose and peppermint scent, and I wanted to sniff it more and more. “Maybe if you turn around and we can have a nice conversation. Get to know each other? I'm Ayden Black” I inhaled sharply, he didn't know who I was. He didn't know it was me, the girl he'd smile at in the hallway while entering Gena and I's bedroom. The girl he'd high five after a win on monopoly. The girl he knew existed but only as his girlfriend's sister and the Beta's daughter. “I—” I choked out. Will he recognize my voice? “I'm Geneva, but I can't stay here. I have hunters following me and I can't endanger your pack. I gotta go, I'm sorry” I started to walk away but he stopped me. “No wait, wait please” He pleaded and I don't know why but I started crying, tears cascaded down my cheeks and I angrily wiped them off. “Just wait, we can deal with hunters. I was suppose to get my blessing tonight and take over the Alpha role from my dad. If I just let him know of your—” “No! Don't let anyone know about me. If anything, we never met. Goodbye mate” I didn't give him the chance to stop me and I changed into my wolf and ran out the woods. I ran and ran and I didn't know where I was going, but it had to be somewhere far from Midnight pack. I knew he ran after me, but he lost my scent about a mile away because I couldn't feel him anymore. And I was glad because I found myself in the human town not far from the pack and I hid behind a tree as I changed back. Only now, I was naked.
