His voice echoes through the canyons, but the only response is the soft chirp of crickets in the nearby brush. The air smells of dirt and metal, of wild nature and cool starlit skies. I shiver and take a deep breath, sucking in eucalyptus and oak and other things I can’t identify. Things I rarely smell in Los Angeles, especially in this future one. Jeremy limps around the area, calling Ken’s name while clutching his shoulder. Paige and Adam join him, but Zahra slips inside the silver car.
