"I'm sorry to put a dampener on the fun memories but, can you show me what her wishes are? We have spoken about things briefly but, I want to make sure that it all goes th way that she has instructed," I almost whispered. "Of course, dear," Tabitha said as she reached for the folder that she showed me before. Everything had been notorised and stamped. Wow! These women were prepared for when their time came. "Ah, here we go." Tabitha pushed the folder toward me. "Did they say how long before they will release the body?" Laura asked. I shook my head. "No, they didn't. They left me contact details before they left last night though." I took the card out of my phone case and handed it to Laura. "Thanks. Leave it with me and I will get you some answers," she's walked off, phone in hand dialling the number that I had given her. "Next on the list, you may find a little difficult. We need to get into the house to collect her outfit and clean up ready for the wake," Ashlyn advised. "She wants the wake to be at our house?" My eyes widened in surprise. "She said and I quote 'Want to be at rest at home before being put in the ground.'" "Ok. I guess that answers the question of burial or cremation," I smiled but it didn't reach my eyes. I could feel the tars building so, I closed my eyes and tok a few deep shaky breaths. "It's alright, Livvie. If you need a moment, we can go over things later." Mrs P has always been good at reading people and situations so I was really grateful right now. "Thanks, Tabitha. The sooner we get through this the better," she nodded her head before we mvd onto the topic of her clothes, music, food she wanted served, who to notify, this list included contact numbers and email addresses, the type of casket she wanted and where to get it from. I was impressed. Mom had planned everything, which was such a relief. "She's thought of everything, hasn't she?" The others giggled. "She knew what she wanted," Rachael said. "I know you will make sure that she gets the send off that she deserves," Ashlyn said, comforting me. "Faye will be ready for us tomorrow afternoon," Laura said coming back into the room. "Thank you." "Oh, sweetie. She was family and would do everything she could to help others. Now it's our turn to look after you," Laura said as she hugged me tight. "I'm sorry. I need..." I stood up and tried to excuse myself before the tears began to fall. Tabitha nodded her head giving me permission to leave. I had just made it through the door of the bedroom when the first sob escaped my mouth. I must've cried myself to sleep as it was now dark outside. I lay on my back, flat on the bed when I heard hushed voices from outside of the room. "She's not ready Elijah. You have to give us time." "You have 48 hours, then I am coming for her. Tell her T. She has the right to know.' What's going on? What did he mean that he was coming for me? I heard the knob turn so I quickly rolled onto my side, closed my eyes and slowed down my breathing so that it seemed like I was sleeping. "My sweet girl. There's a whole world that you don't know about. Your mom kept it hidden from you in the hope that he wouldn't come for you but, she was wrong," she sighed, kissed the top of my head and walked out of the room, leaving me in the darkness of the room with my thoughts. What was she talking about? What other world? Did mom purposely want me to stay away for protection? Questions questions, so many questions. I think it's time to put a little distance between me and mom's friends until I figure out some things. So, I got up off the bed and climbed out the window, shimmied down the drainpipe and headed over to mom's house. I entered via the back door. It was a little warmer than it was last night. This made me relax a little. As I walked around the house, I closed the curtain before turning on the side lamps. "Oh, mom. What have you gotten yourself into? Did you join a cult or something? Give me something, please. What have you been hiding?" I walked into my room but I didn't know what I was looking for. I changed the sheets and blankets before sitting on the bed holding my old stuffed bear. it was the last gift from my dad before he died and it was what my mom was holding in her arms when I found her. I massaged the bear absentmindedly when I felt something hard. It caught me a little by surprise. What was that? and why is it inside my bear? Giving in to my curiosity, I pulled the seam on its back, making a hole large enough for me to push it the object hidden inside. A flash drive. The questions why? what was on there for the need to be hidden? I began searching for mom's laptop but it was nowhere to be found. "Umpf!" I blew out a puff of air as I plopped back onto my bed. I will need to make an excuse to go back to pick up mine so that I could see what was on this drive.
