"So tell me, Mason, did you and Millie have a more... intimate history?" I inquired, though the answer was already evident in the undercurrent of tension that had permeated our interactions. "She seemed quite convinced that the two of you were destined to be together, until you chose me instead."
Mason's piercing gaze met mine, his expression revealing nothing. For a moment, I wondered if he would deign to respond, so consumed was he by the pressing matters at hand - the influx of warriors from the Silver Moon pack, the hastily called meeting to address the fallout.
"We had a brief... dalliance, once before," he finally replied, his tone clipped and devoid of emotion. "But that was long ago, and Millie has clearly failed to move past it."
