I would gladly burn down Marcus

Vienna’s POV. Before I could say anything, he stepped into the room and slammed the door shut. His jaw was set in a rigid line, his facial muscles taut and defined as my eyes took him in. Now I understood why Icarus had not been able to meet his eyes. There was something in them that kept one at bay. He took a step closer, and a faint quiver ran through my limbs, like the subtle tremor of a leaf in an autumn breeze “Look at me.” He commanded I was compelled to obey. I glanced up sharply, and when our eyes locked, he took another step that brought him so close to me, and my skin tingled in response. The longer he watched me silently, the more I panicked and tethered uncontrollably, his silence kept me on edge, and the way his eyes swept over my body made him seem like a predator. He wasn’t going to do it. I said to myself as I tried to calm my racing heart. He wasn’t that much of a psychopath. He wouldn’t force himself into me just like that, not after all he knew I had gone through. I tried to envision the face of the man in the car who had wrapped his jacket around me earlier as a means to convince myself that he wouldn’t do it. The fact that I couldn’t see or hear what was going on in his head made the whole thing worse. Did I really know him? Did I really know what he was capable of and to what length he would go for this position of his? Those questions raced through my mind. “Is it worth it?” I asked, and he c****d his head sideways at me, surprised or intrigued that I had said something. I was taken aback, too. I hadn’t expected those words to make it out of my mouth. It was supposed to be a subconscious conversation. That question had slipped out unintentionally, and thankfully, he didn’t seem pissed by it. Instead, the fiery determination he had earlier on returned, and his eyes glowed with it. “Is what worth it?” He inquired. I couldn’t meet his gaze, but I felt his eyes on me with such intensity that it made me wonder if my body was going to burst into flames any minute. “T-the position you want.” I stammered slightly, “is it worth having a child with a woman you clearly do not want?” He squinted his eyes at me as if he was trying to see through me and that was when I saw it, for the first time, I caught a glimpse of his true nature, his wolf and nothing was more beautiful than its fierce yet beautiful eyes. “I am not a monster Vienna, neither am I one of those Alpha solely driven by ambitious desires. I need that position for a reason, but I would not force myself on a woman because of it.” He replied. I was taken aback by how calm and sincere he was. From the tone of his voice, he definitely wasn’t lying, but something in his words caught my attention. “And may I ask what is the reason behind this? Why am I here, Vincent, and what do you need this position for?” “You know why you’re here.” “After what I heard out there, I am not so sure anymore.” He doesn’t respond. “Why do you need this position that much?” I allowed my curiosity to get the better of me and probed further, “why do you need a pretend Luna like me when you can have someone that is your true mate?” He opened his mouth to say something, but before the words got out, he paused and shook his head. “We already signed a contract, Vienna. You’re mine now, and until I get my own end of the deal, things are not going to change.” He stated and turned around to leave. He was holding back. There was something on the tip of his tongue he was clearly holding himself back from saying. Oddly, it felt good to hear someone call me his. After all I had been through in the past few hours, that meant something even though I knew the situation behind why he said that wasn’t a good one. “And what about mine?” I suddenly asked just as his hands touched the door knob and he stopped but didn’t turn around, “you said you would help me get my revenge on Vera and Marcus, what happens after you gain yours?” “After I get what I want,” he began with a chilling voice, “I would gladly burn down Marcus and his household in your name.” My ability to easily trust people has proved without a doubt to be a weakness, but yet again, I was falling for it. I trusted him for some reason, I barely even knew the man, yet I trusted him more than I have ever trusted Marcus. His words gave me all the assurance I needed. He would help me get back at them after I helped him get what he wanted. It sounded like a pretty good deal, and for once, I wanted to stand up for myself, and if making a deal with him was going to cut it for me, then so be it. “I don’t know how much I can be of help to you but I would help you gain what you want without holding back as long as it is guaranteed that Vera and Marcus would pay for what they did to me.” I spoke up, and this time, he turned to meet my eyes. He nodded, and I took that as a yes. Now, I was faced with how we were going to bring a child into the picture. No matter how much I wanted revenge, I wasn’t going to give myself to a stranger As if he could read what was going on in my mind, he spoke up next, “I do want a child but it’s not now and it’s definitely not from you so you don’t have to worry.” I barely had any chance to provide a response before he opened the door and slammed it back shut behind him. I wasn’t exactly sure how I was supposed to feel about his statement. Was I to feel bad or relieved that he never wanted a child with me in the first place. Not exactly sure what I was supposed to do next, I spent the rest of the day in my room and remained like that until I had an unexpected visitor. Of all the people in the world that could have showed up in front of my door, I definitely did not expect to see Vera in front of it with Vincent’s mate right beside her. Lulee had a smile plastered on her face as she glanced at Vera and then at me. “I asked around and someone said you had family close by, since you just got married, I thought you shouldn’t be alone and at least have family close to you so I invited her to spend some time with us. Is that okay with you?” Something that sounded like mockery clung to her voice, and I frowned because I didn’t understand what she was up to. “Isn’t that so generous of her?" Vera said with a wide smile, “no one would have thought someone would at least care this much about you here, but I guess she really is Luna material.” My head snapped towards her direction the moment I heard her address Lulee as Luna. I thought that was why I was here. I thought I was his Luna. “Pretend Luna.” Lulee suddenly announced with a smirk as if she could hear my thoughts, “you’re his pretend luna.” “Why are you really here?” I questioned Vera, and I had never seen her eyes light up in such a dark manner when she replied; “To put you in your place, to make sure you always remember that just because he married you on a piece of paper, your lowly and weak status doesn’t change.” Lulee stepped closer and brought her lips close to my ears, “Did you really think that I would let you hold that Luna title while I am here? You have no idea what I have planned for you, Vienna.” She grinned as she stepped away from me. Without another word, she strolled down the hallway with Vera, and I was left standing out there, confused as to who Lulee really was and what she was up to. Why did I have a nagging feeling that she was about to do something monstrous to me?
