“You’re joking right?”. Gerald said still looking pale
“Do I sound like I’m joking?”. He leaned by the side of his bed frame like a judge who just passed a verdict
“I’m serious, I won’t give you the company and my other properties, cars until you get married, you have to do that quick because of my illness”
He finally gathered words barely a whisper “Don’t, don’t say that you’ll be fine”
His memory went back to his mall mystery lady, he wore a smile on his face
“What’s with that smirk?”. His father said curiously
“I have someone in mind”
“No, you marry who I say”. His voice stiff
“Are f*****g kidding me!!!”. Gerald face flared up with rage
“Language…”
“I really don’t care right now dad”. He said as he ruffled his hair “First you tell me, your only child that I can’t inherit your properties until I get married, now I have someone in mind but boom you have someone for me already, to hell with so ever b***h you’re bringing because I’m not marrying her!!”
His father stood from his bed and stepped forward “Gerald Peter Sterlings shut your mouth!!”. But Gerald didn’t step back as usual, his blue eyes filled with rage
“Do as I say or else all my properties will go to charity organizations that won’t complain as much as you”
Gerald bitterly scoffed “Fine, I’ll go start up something for myself then”
“I’ll freeze all your accounts”
“At this point I feel you want to just kill me before you die…no wonder every business I did was signed under your name”
“It’s that simple, marry her and get my properties or you live as a nobody”. The father slowly walked towards him
“Ok then, I’ll go look for a job and live with the woman I….”
“I am Charles Sterlings, I’ll make sure nobody ever hires you”. He cut in sharply
Gerald looked at his father with disappointment
“See it as your dying fathers wish”. He had no remorse in his voice
“f**k that, how will I marry someone I don’t love?, I wish mom was still alive things wouldn’t have gone down like this”
He walked out of his father’s room despite him calling out his name, he slammed the door shut. He entered his room immediately then threw a whole bottle of alcohol against the wall
“This freaking sucks, why will he even do something like this to me”
He called his best friend but his phone wasn’t going through, so he called Micheal, he was like a brother to him. His late father was the driver of Charles
Gerald told Micheal everything and he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Minutes later he was in his room
“I thought you two were close”
“Apparently, I thought so too”. He said as he walked over to get a bottle of whiskey
Micheal noticed the shattered glasses on the floor. Micheal smiled at Gerald in a weird way
“What, why are you smiling like that?”
“I have a plan”. Micheal said as he snatched the bottle from him.” That’s enough, sit your ass down”
Gerald collapsed onto the couch“What plan?”
Micheal leaned on the wall with arms and legs crossed “Don’t get me wrong…”. He raised up his hands to his shoulder level
“Just talk already”.
“…When your dad dies”
“Hey”. He sat up from the couch making a fist “watch your mouth”.
“That’s why I said don’t get me wrong, geez relax, I’m not hoping for that”
Gerald sank back into the couch “Continue”
“Marry the supposed woman, file a divorce then boom you’re a free man”
“If he doesn’t die for like years?”
“So now you are wishing for him to die”. He said with a grin
“That’s not..tsk, is that everything you had to say?”. He groaned
“Do you know what your bride looks like?”
“No clue”
“Your mall lady, I’m so sorry”. He said as he gulped the whiskey in his hands
“I’ll find her and make her mine”. He smiled faintly
“Do you think she will want to be pulled into a mess like this?, she seemed like a calm person”
“Love conquers everything”
“Gerald, relax you don’t know whether she has a boyfriend”
“I won’t let that deter me, he better step aside”
“Good morning Mr Charles”. Sophie’s father said over the phone
“Good morning Mr Harry, I told my son about the wedding and it won’t be a problem, have you informed your daughter?”
He glanced over at Sandra who was sitting on the kitchen counter biting a banana. He turned away. “Uhm not yet just wanted to be sure your son will comply”
“A little introduction will be nice to make things official”
“You’re right sir”
“Tomorrow sounds nice. Over dinner”
“No problem sir”
He ended the call and told Sandra the news. His wife Martha was already aware, she was delighted because the Sterlings are extremely wealthy
“What?!!!”.Her eyes wide
“Calm down”
“Me marriage?!”
“Shut up, you young woman!, allow me to finish, this is very crucial for me”. Her mouth was wide open but no words came out. Sophie heard yelling from her room and was heading down stairs to peek
“Crucial for you? Then you get Sophie married, not me, what the hell?”. She came down from the counter and was heading to her room not knowing the mother was standing on the staircase, she pushed her lightly on her shoulder
“You listen and listen well”. Sandra stepped back and Martha followed with heels clicking on the tiled floor “If it were a scum bag or a nobody do you think we will force you into marriage?”
Her mood immediately lightened up. Martha held her hands and she walked back to her devastated looking father
“You are getting married into one of the wealthiest families in the country”
“Who?”. Sandra said with excitement
“Gerald Sterlings”
The mother said with a smile on her face while the father nodded from behind
Sandra fake fainted and stood up again. The parents didn’t panic because that was her regular stunt. Sophie stood still trying to process the whole thing, she quietly went back to her room
“Are you serious?”. She hugged the both of them “Why didn’t you just tell me from the onset dad?”
“Did you let me talk?”
“I’m sorry”. She said pouting her lips
“Oh my gosh, I will be more rich than I already am”
“All the money you spend is mine not yours”. The father said as he walked past her
What’s the crucial thing you’re talking about?”. Sandra asked holding her fathers shoulder
“Do you really want to know?”
