I woke up and instead of those big blue eyes staring back at me, I was met to with the fantastic sight of Brian’s back. I turned and reached over so I could drape my arm over his back and cuddle with him from behind. As I place my arm around his mode section he grunts a little.
“I’m too hot dear. Not right now please.” He said and shortly thereafter he started to snore again. So much for morning cuddles.
Instead I got up and walked into the kitchen to make coffee. It was Friday today and I had to leave for work in about 2 hours, I woke up every morning at 5 am just so I could sit and buoy my coffee before the day really started to get away from me. Usually, Brian will stay asleep for at least another 30 minute to an hour, but sometimes he does join me. But when he does it never seems as peaceful. I didn’t have to worry about it today though because he was not obviously not getting up any time soon.
I put the coffee beans into the grinder and listened to the whirring motion as I looked out the kitchen window. I had to crane my neck to see the sky because the direct view out of the window was a brick wall in the alleyway between buildings. There were hints of purples and pinks, and I knew that soon the color orange would join the fray as well.
The sweet aroma of coffee started to fill my nostrils and I felt myself perking up. Pulling out my favorite coffee creamer I set it on the counter and waited for the last few drops of coffee to brew before pouring into one of my favorite mugs. It just so happened to have Beauty and the Beast on it.
The image helped me remember most of my dream from the night before, and I was glad because it just so magical I almost wanted to write it down so I wouldn’t forget. The way the dream man’s eyes molded into mine was seared into my brain at the moment and I just stood there lost in thought for a few moments.
“Is there something wrong with the coffee pot?” Brian asked as he saw it was still full and here I was just standing in the kitchen and staring off into spaces
“Hmm. Oh, no it’s fine. I think I’m still half asleep.” I said as I poured the coffee in my mug over the creamer I had previously placed in there. “I will feel better once some of this gets into my system.” I smiled at him as he shook his head.
“You are crazy woman, you know that right?” He asked smiling at me from the doorway of the bathroom. His hair was all tousled and looked like it could be the nest for so small bird, so he didn’t have much room to talk.
“Yes, I know. It’s why you love me so much.” I said and smirked as I tried to come up and kiss him.
“Eww babe, not with coffee breath. You know that.” He smirked and kissed my forehead. I just nodded my head and accepted the kiss. I mean I get it, coffee breath does stink. But it’s not like I’m asking for a make out session or anything. I knew it was a losing battle so I went to the couch to enjoy the rest of the cup while Brian was in the shower.
After I heard the water turn off I knew I had about 30 minutes to get ready. So I made myself get my butt off the couch and went into my bedroom to start pulling an outfit out for the day. My choice today was a black pencil skirt that fell to the knee with a small slit up the side, a blue sweater that accented my curves, and black flats because there was no way I would wear heels. They just aren’t my thing and the only time I’m comfortable in them is when I’m dreaming and know I’m not going to twist my ankle or something.
As Brian came in from the shower he was sexy with the towel around his wait showing off his flat stomach. He may not be chiseled like my dream man, but he still very attractive. “So when can we start moving in to the apartment?” I called out as I made my way towards the shower.
He hollered back and said, “This afternoon.” I could hear the smile in voice as I whipped around.
“No way! So soon?” I couldn’t help but feel giddy. I was not the most patient person in the world and was ready to move yesterday when I got the key in my hand. I did a little happy dance before not caring what he said about coffee breath and running up to kiss him.
He tried to keep me there and I knew it would lead to more, but I was running out of time to get ready. “Not today honey, I’m running late and need this shower to feel alive.” I said as I pushed him back on the bed.
“What am I supposed to do with this then?” He asked as he drop the towel showing his hardened length. It was almost enough to make me turn around and be late for work, but I had to stay strong.
Instead I said “That’s why you have a hand dear.” I winked before opening the shower curtain and hopping inside. I could hear him mumble something about damn woman as I giggled in the shower.
After my shower I quickly blow-dried my hair and slapped on eyeliner and mascara. This was as far as make up web for me because I honestly didn’t care for the time it took to put it in to take it off. I was fine with the way I looked and someone else doesn’t like it then they can shove it.
“Do you want to ride together so we can stop and grab moving boxes on the way home from work?” He asked leaning on the doorframe watching me zip up my pencil skirt before putting on my shoes.
“Yeah, that will be fine.” I said as I grabbed my to go coffee cup and prepared it for the drive. We agreed to order in lunch at our respective offices today so that saved us some time and we were able to head down to the car.
“So, do you have anything exciting happening at work today? Or are you just muscling through it to get the weekend?” I asked filling the silence in the car with some of my chatter. What can I say, I’m your regular Chatty Cathy.
“Actually yes, we have some big wig executive coming in to talk about clients and expectations for next quarter.” He said and honked the horn as someone had cut him off. Brian has a terrible case of road rage that sometimes made me embarrassed to ride in the car with him.
“And you consider this exciting because?” I asked. I didn’t see what the big deal was, and though something like this happened every quarter.
“You don’t understand Ariel. This guy is a legend in our company. He moved up the ranks faster than anyone else ever has and is only a couple years older than me. They say he is ruthless when it comes to business and has no personal life due to all the time he spends working.” He said in awe, almost as if he idolized the guy. Which seems weird to me because I thought that sounded like a workaholic ego centric guy to me, but I’d never met him and couldn’t just judge him like that.
“Okay honey, have fun with your man crush today.” I giggled and went back to staring out the window.
When we pulled up outside of my office I gave Brian a kiss and said I Love you before exiting the car. Walking towards the building I felt myself fill with dread because I knew today was going to seem long due to the fact that I was so excited to start packing and moving.
“Well, here goes the start of the longest day ever.” I thought as I pushed the door open and felt the welcoming wind of air conditioning hit my face.
