Chapter 4Nick nodded off only to jerk awake when the elevator door opened in the middle of the corridor. Out stepped a young woman dressed in an apron. She carried a tray filled with clean glasses to put by the ice machine.
“You’re up early.” She smiled at him while wiping the surfaces on and around the machine.
“Yeah, couldn’t sleep.” He rubbed his forehead.
“Breakfast will open in a few minutes, but you can walk down there if you want. I’m still waiting for the eggs.” She glanced at her watch. “They’re ready in four minutes.”
Nick stood. “That would be lovely.” He didn’t know when he’d be able to eat next, so better take the opportunity when it presented itself. Putting the laptop in his backpack, he rode down to the bottom floor in the elevator together with the woman.
