Chapter One

"Good morning sunshine!" My brother yelled with a grin as I crossed the never ending hallway.  I stopped and gave him the biggest glare I could muster at this time of morning. I took in his appearance with a scowl. He was freshly showered, evident from his damp blonde hair that was sitting messy on his head. His slim frame and blue eyes to awake for me to deal with.  "Haven't you got work today?" I asked him with a raised brow.  "Actually no I don't. Grey is flying home today." Grey.  My brothers best friend. The very same person I crushed on for as long as I could remember, well until he left when he was 13 with his parents to New York. We only had two years of difference and I too considered him to be my best friend...he never once got in touch when he left.  My brother has somewhat of a regular contact with him, he try's to refrain it to the weekends since it's a military mission to speak to Greyson.  He's very very well known now, his love for music developed into something more and now he's a hot shot rockstar...drugs, women and alcohol. Yep, I've read about his life in the magazines.  "He's coming here?" I asked Jase, my brother.  "Well he's going to be staying at his mums house but-" "He's going to be staying down the street?" I asked annoyed, "near to us?" My brother rolled his eyes sitting forward on our leather sofa.  "Yes and yes." He sighed, "I don't understand this problem between the both of you, you loved him when we were kids." I stilled, my breathing slowed.  Loved? Maybe.  "15 years changes people Jase." I muttered, "Have you not read the articles they post about him? He's not the Grey that we both knew." I told him, watching as he shook his head with a smile.  "Yes. He's an adult and as adults were allowed to live our life's, we all make mistakes Emily. It's just a shame that his are broadcasted for the world to see." He told me frowning.  Ok so he did have a point. I don't know why I was being so defensive about this his last summer before he left changed a lot between us. My brother was off to summer camp (his choice) and I don't know, I felt something clicked between Grey and I.  We would go swimming to a little lake near our houses, that we called out secret spot. We would watch movies together, cuddling and laughing. He was my first thought in the morning and last at night. Maybe I did love him but he didn't love me like that back, I'm pretty sure in his eyes I was like a little sister. Nevertheless, we were best friends and then he left and the only one he got in contact with was Jase, proving my point to be true.  We're both adults now, childhood crush gone and established in our work. He's a hot shot rockstar and I own a publishing company now. He's 28 and I'm 26, 15 years later and polar opposites.  Well besides our love for music, everything straight down to the genres we can agree on. He's always been good with music. He had the voice of an angel back then and now, his voice was rough and meaningful. Girls throw their panties at him for a reason.  Grey was a walking s*x symbol. His dark hair always messy on his head, tattoos everywhere, piercing grey eyes and chisled by the gods themselves. It was only last week I was editing a magazine and there he was, topless with jeans hanging low on his hips showcasing his tattoos and rock hard abs. His photographs send shivers down my spine, besides the drunken night outs...they're my least favourite with the leggy models hanging off his arms.  "You still with me Ems?" I shook my head nodding sharply.  "Yeah sorry I was just thinking that's all." I gave a small smile as he slowly stood.  "He's having a party at his mums house tonight, we're both invited." He smiled, I frowned. "It's invite only so I managed to score one for Kate if she wants to come?"  "I'll ask her in a moment...I have nothing to wear, my things are still in New York remember?" He gave a look of realisation before reaching deep into his pockets and pulling out his car keys.  "Home for the summer, got it." He smiled throwing they keys in my direction, I caught them surprisingly. "Grab Kate and head out to the mall and get something to wear?" I smiled.  "Sure I suppose I can." I told him, "I can't stay all night, I have a quick video meeting tomorrow morning discussing our latest cover and a team meeting at-" "Your supposed to be on holiday Ems...people don't work on holidays."Jase laughed causing me to roll my eyes at his behaviour.  "What can I say I'm a busy girl," I smiled giving a small twirl. "Things have been a little hectic recently and I just want to make sure everything is ok, after those meetings tomorrow I'm locking my work cell away. I promise." I told him with a sweet sickening smile.  "Go on get out of here!" He laughed waving at me like a child.  I love Jase. He's two years older but I take a lot of responsibility with him. He's a free spirit, loves to explore and travel but deep down, he's saving everything he can for his own record label. He works for a small time one at the minute but his dream is big. I know he's excited about Grey coming home for this reason, he's wanting his friend to give him guidance.  Grey has his own record label, owns his band and killing the charts. At 28 years old, he's in an envious role for many people.  Grey Lightning.   He named the band with his Dad, John. Unfortunately, he passed away two years ago and going by the magazines...Greyson has had a hard time with it. He was extremely close to his Dad, John taught him everything he knows. Their love for music made for an unbreakable bond between them when we were younger.  When he died, I guess you can say Grey went off the rails. Drugs, alcohol and plenty of mistakes. I heard that he checked into rehab, the drug problem gone but it left an unsettling feeling in my stomach. I wish I could have been there for him, I should have reached out and told him that I was sorry for his loss. I just couldn't find the courage and quite honestly, I didn't think he'd want me too.  Unlocking my phone, I quickly skimmed down my social media. Someone bought a new cat...lovely. I kept my thumb scrolling until I stopped on a picture from Alison Green, the title of the post "my baby's coming home" with a picture of her holding up an invitation. An invitation to Grey's party tonight.  She didn't look anything like she did in high school, fair enough she was a natural beauty but now it's fake beauty. Her nose, her chest, her lips and her forehead with no expression. She chased after Greyson when we were at school, she told everyone they were an item when they weren't.  I laughed thinking of a memory with Grey from school. Alison was in hysterics, practically begging Grey to go to a concert with her. She knew he loved music, everyone did. He always walked around the halls with his guitar case. I remember I wanted to tell Grey that he was heading to my house after school for dinner, something that happened once and again if his parents were working. My parents both love him, everything he has achieved they have followed. They never forget his birthday and neither do they forget his Christmas, our families were very close.  I remember he looked horrified, grabbing me towards him and said that he was already going to the concert with me. There was no concert, I wish there was but the statement alone caused an undying hatred to form in Alisons gut towards me.  Allegedly, they slept together a few years back after a few months of texting. Alison seen her opportunity and sold the story...exposing Grey. He never once confirmed or denied it so maybe it was true, who knows.  Sighing, I continued on with my next task. Phoning Kate. Luckily, she answered on the third ring.  "Emily my beautiful darling dearest, how can I be at your service today?" She snickered down the phone causing me to erupt with laughter.  "Someone is oddly happy for this time of morning." I exclaimed to her still laughing.  "Yoga does wonders and caffeine...lots of caffeine!" She replied cheerfully making me smile, "Is everything ok? Your not a morning person and it's 7am...your on holiday, you don't wake up early on holidays." I again laughed shaking my head.  "Jet lag I suppose." I told her with a sigh.  "How was your flight?" She asked sounding like she was climbing into her car with the commotion in the background.  "It was fine, boring but fine." I told her pressing the button quickly on the coffee machine. Kate talking about caffeine caused an impulse reaction.  "Mmhmm spit it out, what's up?" She asked, humour had slid away and her stern mum voice in play.  "Greys coming home today." I muttered.  "Speak up Emily, I can't hear you" She playfully sang causing my eyes to roll.  "Grey is coming home today" I replied much louder for her to hear, her gasp confirmed she heard it.  "Holy s**t!" She exclaimed a little too loudly, I pulled my phone away from my ear. Definitely a voice too loud for this time of morning. "Grey? As in Greyson Scott? Sexy and bad boy rockstar Grey?" She rushed out.  "Yes. Yes and Yes." I told her lifting my freshly made coffee to my lips.  Sip. Taste. Swallow. Perfection.  "Have you spoken to him?" She asked eager for details, that's Kate.  "What? No. Jase told me this morning and he's having a party or something at his mum's house tonight. We both have an invitation." I told her taking another sip of my morning comfort.  "Are you going? I mean you haven't spoken to him in...14 years?" "15 years." I quickly corrected, "I'm going to go, I just need to find something to wear first. I need your help so please come to the mall with me?" I asked her sweetly.  "Well I'm glad your going because I may have had to ditch your ass for this one." I laughed, "I've got your back girl. I assume that Allison is going? I seen her post this morning but I don't believe a word that comes from her, naturally I thought it was lies but I guess I was wrong." Yep, Kate too doesn't get along with Allison. It's not a shock because not many people do.  "Yeah she's going." I sighed, "She will probably go to hell and back to make a statement tonight." I told her putting my now empty coffee cup into the dishwasher.  "So that just means that we need to get you looking like a walking s*x appeal!" She squealed, "he will dye when he see's you." She was smiling I could tell but my face paled.  "Kate it's not like that and it's never been like that." I told her but she laughed it off.  "I as your best friend seen how that boy looked at you in school, brother act wasn't the case. He liked you." I shook my head laughing.  "Your insane and I'm not listening, when can you be here?" I asked her.  "Your fairy godmother will be with you in 10 minutes." She replied playfully, "Seriously though, I haven't seen you in four months please let me do what I do best and let me sort you out for tonight?" She pleaded and I easily caved.  Kate was an interior designer but when clothes were involved, her taste for fashion and putting things together was incredible. I still don't understand why she went into interior designing, she would have been a credit to the fashion industry.  "Fine just be here in 10 minutes or your chance is gone." I giggled heading down the never ending hallway the the staircase.  "I'll be there in 9." She replied hanging up the phone.
