Things were going well six months later. Rosey was on day shift and later transferred to the detective division. She was happy there. She was studying to take the test for lieutenant. Jade and Akira were in their second year of community college.
One day, Akira got a phone call. The man identified himself as Deputy Chief of Operations Corey Green for the California State Prison system.
“Ms. Watanabe, I’d like to meet with you to discuss your father’s time here.”
“Why?”
“I have important information that should be delivered in person.”
They arranged to meet in a local coffee shop. Akira asked Rosey and Jade to be there. She wanted emotional support and hoped the man was real and wasn’t going to ask for money for some program. Akira told the man she’d have a carnation with her.
