Jade stripped naked and crawled into bed, fatigue ruling her body after being emotionally jerked up and down a flagpole. The shock of being told she was pregnant to coming out, again, to her mother. Maybe Mom told the truth when she said she didn’t remember Jade’s confession on her fourteenth b-day. Maybe Mom did zone out or fall asleep with her eyes open. As much as Jade wanted to stay in recalcitrant b***h mode, it felt good to talk with Mom. Jade appreciated that Mom lay in bed with her the night before, making her feel safe and loved.
