Chapter 6 “Don’t ask,” I warned Emily as she backed out of the driveway of Theo’s home. Her kids had already been sent off to school. “I didn’t say anything.” By the time I had taken my shower and dressed, and Emily had arrived, the sky had clouded over. She had just handed me a breakfast sandwich and a Styrofoam cup of coffee she’d picked up for me on the way over when the first drops of rain fell on her windshield. “That was unexpected,” I finally said after a few bites.
