Chapter 3

Everyone around was shocked when they heard her reject him. Everyone knew about her crush on him, even though they never spoke about it. Now, she was rejecting him after being given the chance to be with him. “What do you mean by you're rejecting me? Odessa, did I do something wrong?” Lucas asked, drawing almost everyone's attention. A smirk appeared on her lips. He was the one drawing attention to himself, and she didn't want to have any of it. “Please, Lucas, I'm not interested in being your mate. And besides, your relationship with Emma shouldn't be ruined by me.” Odessa gestured towards Emma, who looked stunned, just like Lucas did. “How did you—” he asked, looking around with a stunned expression. “You still want me as your mate despite being in a beneficial relationship with my sister. Why would I even do that?” Odessa rolled her eyes, her arms still folded across her chest. “I get you don't want to be rejected by your mate and still want to keep a relationship with your side woman. But I won't accept that.” And everyone looked at Emma and Lucas in shock. They were secretly lovers, and no one knew about it. “On top of it all, Emma has been selected to go to the Blood Moon Pack to meet Alpha Desmond. And the Alpha stated the person should still be pure, but Emma is far from being pure.” Odessa said, and the whole place started to fill with murmurs. “That's enough, Odessa.” Her father grabbed her arm, but he was stopped by the Alpha. “Is this true, Emma?” he asked, as Emma fidgeted with her hands, gently looking around nervously and then at Lucas. “I'm afraid I'll be taking that as a yes. Since you have decided to lie to me, you will be punished. Now, who would like to go instead of her?” “My Alpha,” Odessa hurriedly chipped in with a bright smile on her face. Everyone was stunned again to see her volunteering to go to the most ruthless Alpha in the current pack's history. Alpha Desmond had requested that one of the noble daughters come to his pack and get married to him since he hadn't found his mate yet, and he needed an heir. No woman in her right senses would volunteer to go into his den. Because walking into a lion's den was much safer. In her past life, she had heard nothing much about him and just knew Emma returned because he had sent her out of his pack. Who knew what she did that time around? “Are you sure about it?” her father asked, walking over to her with a nervous look. “He isn't a very easy person to deal with.” “But you want Emma to go? Why? So she would enjoy the benefits I shouldn't?” Odessa asked, and her father laughed nervously, trying to avoid the talk. “Why would you like to go to the Blood Moon Pack instead of your sister?” the Alpha asked Odessa, who looked at him for a few seconds before replying. “I'd prefer having a husband far away from home since your son had disappointed me by being with my sister while pretending he wants to be with me. Then I would opt for going to the Alpha.” Odessa replied confidently. “You might not return.” “Well, I don't see the need to return. I'm not wanted anyway, and I don't mind never returning either,” she replied. And the Alpha approved her leaving. “You can't be serious, Odessa.” Her father, Elias, walked after her as she walked towards their room after the party. “I can't let you go there.” “Why don't you want me to go there?” Odessa asked him as she got to her door, signaling back to look at him with a raised brow, signifying she was listening to his explanation. “Desmond is a ruthless man. He can kill you for any little misunderstanding. I have lost your mother. I don't want to lose you too for any reason at all.” He calmly said, and she just looked at him for a few seconds before letting out a sigh. “Good night, Father,” she replied, pulling the door open to get into her room. As she closed the door, she immediately slipped to the floor, burying her face between her knees. “Are you sure you want to do this?” Aria asked her with a calm voice. “Like they said, I might be in danger.” “Do we have a choice? He is the only ticket to get out of dying again. I want to stay as far away from them as possible. Once we get to Desmond, we'll find a way to take care of it.” Odessa said, pushing herself up to start packing her things. She knew she wouldn't be needing much of it, but she packed them anyway. Alpha Devon, Lucas's father, had asked her to start preparing as she would be leaving once it was morning. She remembered Emma leaving a day after the mating ceremony. Also, because clearly Alpha Desmond wanted a woman who had no mate, so to confirm that she had no mate, they made it the day after the mating ceremony. As she stood in her room about to fall asleep, she heard a knock on her door. Looking down at the floor, she watched the shadow there. She walked over to the door, pulled it open, and saw Emma standing there in her night dress, her arms folded across her chest. Probably looking at her in that dress brought back the memories of the day Odessa met Emma and Lucas in bed in her past life. “What do you want, Emma?” “What were you thinking, Odessa? You just ruined my chance of living a perfect life with Alpha Desmond's wealth. What were you thinking?” Emma half yelled, keeping her voice as low as she could so she wouldn't draw their father's attention. “What? Do you have a problem with me having what you want? Besides, if you have Lucas, you can get everything you want from him because I'll tell you, you two are the perfect match.” Odessa replied, leaning against the door with a serious look. “What do you mean? You've been acting differently since you left the gathering this afternoon. What has gotten into you to try defying what I tell you to do? All I'm doing is for your own good.” “Do you want to go there and be treated like trash despite having the position?” Emma asked with a raised brow. If it was in the past, Odessa would have easily given in. But not anymore. She wasn't going to do that and let Emma treat her like a fool, which she wasn't. “Thank you very much for your concern, Emma, but I'll take it from here. I don't want you meddling in my business. You've done enough for now.” Emma's expression twisted in anger, but she just nodded and walked out on Odessa, fuming. “Why is she suddenly so smart and can tell what is right and what is wrong? How did she even know about Lucas and me?” Emma mumbled through gritted teeth before heading towards her room. As she pushed the door open, she saw Lucas sitting on her bed, looking lost in thought. “What's wrong, babe?” Emma asked, walking over to him before kneeling between his open legs. She lifted his chin gently to look at her, but he wasn't pleased to see her at all. “What's wrong? Do you want me now?” she asked, pulling off her night dress robe, but he stood up, pushing her out of his way, which made her stunned. “Lucas?” “I don't think we should see each other again, Emma.”
