Odessa stood in shock at what she had just heard. Her body was not able to make a single motor movement, and her brain refused to send sensory responses to her body.
She was paralyzed in shock, wonder, stupefaction, and most of all, confusion.
What was Alaric talking about, bringing his sister back to life? And why was he saying she was the major person involved? And how in heaven was she supposed to do that?
Odessa's eyes were so filled with confusion that even her face scrunched up funnily. The atmosphere was still thick with tension as Alaric's intense eyes stared at Odessa's confused ones.
Odessa wanted to say much more, to tell him to spill all his secrets. What he wanted to say, because the suspense was killing her slowly. She wanted him to spill all the beans.
Where was Delta Savior? What was he searching for? Why did Alaric step up to become the new Delta in his father's absence? Why were her husband's actions provoked and brought back to life?
And most of all, why does it concern her? Different questions ran through Odessa's mind, and her small mind wasn't able to comprehend them. Her head pounded from overthinking too much.
She just wanted to know everything to clear her doubts and confusion. She wanted to know, and there was only one individual who could help her.
And he stood right in front of her as they both stood in front of the graveyard. The door was ajar and left open. Before she could utter her questions, a sound drew both of their attention away.
Alaric and Odessa both turned their attention to the opening library door as moonlight seeped through and the sound of walking footsteps echoed throughout the quiet place.
Who is there? The sound of a male voice penetrated the silence of the library. Odessa quickly turned off her torch, the warm fire quenching as the cold wind blew.
Making her shiver from the sudden cold. Alaric, what are we going to—? Odessa's words seized as she tried to process what just went through.
The place where Alaric once stood was now empty, and the graveyard's door was closed and covered back to its facade of an old falling wall. She was the only one standing in that place with no presence of Alaric or any living soul.
He left me, Odessa softly whispered angrily. Whomever you are, show yourself, I can smell you.
The words of the incoming man made Odessa hesitant. He was coming closer, but she didn't know where to go. Odessa turned left and right and saw it blocked by huge, tall bookshelves.
There was no escape route. Then how did Alaric escape? Odessa wondered, looking everywhere for the escape route he went through, but nothing, absolutely nothing.
The red fire torchlight of the man got closer and closer. The light of the flames was almost touching Odessa's gown as she tried to blend into the shadows.
Odessa squinted her eyes as the bright torch flashed through her eyes. She used her hands to shield her face. You! the man's voice called accusingly.
Now that she listened to his voice clearly, she could remember. She heard this voice before she could recognize it.
Are you going to blind me with that torch, or what? Odessa asked, moving her hands away. As her eyes adjusted to the brightness, she looked into the dull grey eyes of the librarian. His body was covered only by robes.
I could blind you for sneaking into the library in the middle of the night. What are you even doing here, woman? he asked, resting his weight on one leg.
Odessa racked her mind for answers, something to reply to the man, but nothing came up. She looked at the librarian and noticed his irritation at her silence.
I came here to read some midnight books. It brings me great pleasure to do that once in a while, she said, trying to smile sweetly at the librarian, but the man just gave her a deadpan look.
Signifying he didn't believe her. Odessa bit her lower lip as her face turned red at his look. Oh, for God's sake. Use your position, Aria whispered in her mind.
Yes, why didn't I think of that? DA. Because you're dumb. Odessa almost wanted to punch her head to keep Ria quiet. Do not question me. MR.
Odessa stood high, her back straight. A poised attitude and opulence suddenly surrounded her. The librarian's expression became one of deep confusion.
He scowled at Odessa. Do you know who I am? the librarian questioned, walking threateningly towards her. Odessa laughed softly. No. The important question is.
Do you know who I am? As Odessa said this, she raised her hands, revealing the pure golden bracelet. Its beautiful, intricate design screamed of wealth and opulence.
A symbol of affluence. The tip of the bracelet bore the face of a roaring wolf as a diamond splash erupted from its mouth. The insignia of the Pax royalty.
The librarian's eyes widened at what he saw as he stared in shock at Odessa's wrist. You're the— the librarian stammered, his steps becoming unsteady.
Odessa smiled at his shock. She had finally shifted her attention to why she was here and directed it towards her position. You're the Luna, the librarian finally let out. Yes, I am.
The librarian suddenly bowed down below Odessa's feet. His mouth moved as he pleaded with her to forgive him for his disrespect. I'm sorry, my Luna, I didn't recognize you.
Odessa led the librarian to his feet as a plan formulated in her head. Maybe I could use this to my advantage, Odessa thought, as the plan twisted like a machine in her head.
She was unable to find what she was looking for the last time she was here. Now it's time to search.
From top to bottom. A sly smile appeared on Odessa's lips, and she mouthed.
Stand up, librarian.
