Chapter 19

Odessa screamed excitedly, walking up and hugging him. Alpha Desmond didn't return the hug, instead choosing to stand still. He could still feel the aftereffects of the bloodlust, as if it was knocking on the door and waiting for someone to open it. Odessa looked at her husband's eyes, but something seemed wrong. He looked different. His eyes seemed to be darker than they usually were. His face more dangerously handsome, and most of all, his smile. It seemed to be more sinister. "My beautiful Luna." He greeted her with that same sinister smile. Odessa couldn't help but look at him. His behavior was strange. He even avoided touching as much of her as possible. "Are you okay, husband?" She asked him, looking worried. "I'm very much fine. No need to worry." Desmond replied, throwing her a smile. "I see you've met Alaric." He continued, staring at Alaric. "Huh? You know him?" She questioned. Desmond nodded. "Very much. He's the new member of the Pack House, my new Delta." Odessa turned to him, immediately shocked. She nearly broke her neck with the speed she used. Her heart skipped a beat. "Delta? How is this possible? Delta?" She questioned, turning to the incoming Beta. "George, what about Delta Xavier? Where's he?" She questioned. She remembered the few times she met him. He was always silent and resolute. His eyes always held a glare. But she sensed no hostility from him. He was loyal. Alpha Desmond smiled at his mate. "Xavier is quite indisposed. In the meantime, Alaric will take over as Delta from now on. Alaric is Xavier's oldest son. It would do the pack pleasure to have him here. He will start living here from today." Desmond continued. Odessa didn't feel right about this decision. There was something about Alaric that didn't sit well with her. Something was wrong. But there was nothing she could do. As the night wore on, Odessa tried to make sense of what was happening. She didn't tell Desmond about her encounter with the rogue wolf, and thankfully, Alaric got a hint of it and kept his mouth shut. But now all problems fell on the handsome stranger who saved her life. Alaric. He seemed to be a constant presence, always watching her. Ever since the afternoon she arrived at the Pack House. Everywhere she went, she could feel his eyes burning with an intensity that made her want to peel her skin as it crawled. She didn't lay her complaints or discomfort to Alpha Desmond. Instead, she chose to keep quiet. He had been acting strangely ever since he came back. Desmond didn't meet her eyes and ignored her each time she tried to initiate a conversation with him. He seemed to be guilty. But why? Odessa's mind was conflicted. So she prepared to go to the kitchen on her floor for a drink. She saw a bottle of wine and took it immediately, wanting to satisfy her raging mind. "You shouldn't be drinking such things late at night." A voice made her jump out of her skin as she turned wide eyes at the person. "Oh, not again." "Alaric." Odessa hissed. "Don't ever do that again. And what are you even doing in this chamber? It's meant for only me and the Alpha." She turned her head towards where her bedroom was. Desmond was still sleeping. "You have to get out. You're not permitted to be here." She continued, pushing his large body away. A deep laugh erupted from deep within Alaric's chest. "I wanted to see you before I sleep. Is that too much to ask?" Odessa stared at him, confused. What was this guy saying? "If you haven't noticed, I am married to the Alpha, and I'm your Luna, so I demand you get out." Odessa was getting angry at his attitude. How dare he walk into the Alpha's chamber just to see her? Alaric deflated. "Don't be an energy killer. I'm also your Delta, you know." "Get out." She was not having it. "Okay, if you want me to." Alaric said, turning to walk away. Suddenly, he grabbed her waist, trapping her against the wall opposite the blender machine. "What are you doing? Let go of me." Odessa struggled, trying not to shout to attract anyone. "Calm down, Bella. It's nothing harmless." His voice became slow and seductive. "I saw the eyes you used to look at me. You're into me." Odessa's eyes opened wide at his words. Was she that obvious? "No, I am not." She lied. She felt something, but they were just feelings. She could only love one man, and that was Desmond. "Yes, you are. And I like you too." He whispered in her ear, making her shiver. "Even if, by any chance, it was just a minor attraction, now it's simply gone. So don't think too highly of yourself." The more she talked, the more she didn't even believe herself. Why was her body reacting to him this way? "I'm freaking married to the Alpha. Your Alpha. Now get off me." She forced out, though not struggling anymore. "That doesn't stop us from liking who we like. I like you, and I sense you like me too. Just know this, Bella. I must have you, with or without the Alpha's approval." Alaric smelled her neck, inhaling her scent. Odessa didn't want this. No matter any attraction, she couldn't betray Desmond. Not like this. Not after what he had been through. Never would she betray him. Never. Odessa struggled with all the strength she had, trying to escape Alaric's tight hold. Her hands got free, and she prepared to punch the spirit out of Alaric's body. But a voice made her still. Her anger deflated into one of dread. "What's going on here?" The voice of Alpha Desmond penetrated the deep walls of the higher chamber of the Pack House. His dark eyes were on their compromised position.
