Chapter 27

995 Words
Hello, Luna. He was smiling. He was actually smiling at her as if he hadn't ditched her last night, leaving her all alone in that musty and dark library, as if he wasn't the one who dragged her out there in the middle of the night. Her fists clenched in anger at his audacity. Without thinking, her hand rose and struck him across the face. The sound of the slap carried through the air like a c***k of lightning. Alaric's face, which was twisted to the side, with his eyes closed and cheeks red. Turned around to face her, eyes blazing in anger. Realizing what she had just done, Odessa took a step back immediately, turning on her heel and ready to bolt out of there and back to her room. Thanks to the goddess, no one was around to witness what had just happened. Since the garden was secluded most of the time, she didn't know how she would have handled the attention. Where do you think you're going, Odessa? She felt his hand grab her wrist, dragging her back towards him. It's Luna to you, Alaric, and let me go, or I will scream b****y murder. She yelled, snatching her wrist away from his hold. Why are you acting like this? After everything I showed you yesterday, you still don't trust me. His head tilted to the side, scrutinising her features, his dark eyes trying to get a read on her behaviour. Odessa scoffed in disbelief. Hot, red anger burned through her, and she faced him squarely. You left me all alone in that stupid library in the middle of the night. So how the hell, Alaric, how am I supposed to trust you? She asked mockingly, eyes threatening him to lie and say he didn't. So that's why you're mad at me. I thought— Whatever it is you have to say, I don't want to hear it. I am leaving. She interrupted him, her palm facing him to avoid any further rubbish from leaving his mouth. She turned around and left, and this time he didn't hold her back. She couldn't and wouldn't be caught in a compromising position with him again. She wasn't going to betray her husband. Walking back to her room, she suddenly felt goosebumps break out all over her skin. She had a feeling like someone was watching her. Someone is watching us. Aria confirmed the feeling she felt. Someone was watching her, and the feeling just refused to disappear. She turned in the direction where she had felt the presence and approached it, dragging back the curtains to reveal what was behind. To her surprise, there was nothing there. She sighed and scolded herself and her wolf for being so paranoid, but immediately freaked out when she felt a hand on her shoulder. Luna, Luna, it's me. Claudia, are you all right? Embarrassment threatened to swallow her whole as she saw it was just the Beta's mate and not some creepy stalker keeping tabs on her. Should she tell Desmond about this uneasy feeling? She thought to herself, and quickly composed herself. Yes, I'm okay, Claudia. Is there anything you need? She scrutinised Claudia, giving her a questioning look. I was wondering if you were up for some baking. The Alpha and my mate are out on business, and since we ladies are in the house, I wondered if you would like to help me prepare some treats for them, only if you are free. Of course, Claudia suggested, hoping Odessa would agree. Sure. Surely, Odessa was happy to finally have female company. Although she was cautious of her interactions with people after what happened in her past life, she didn't see any harm in baking. And Claudia seemed nice enough, so there wasn't any threat. They decided to use the kitchen in the lower wing, which was empty. They were going to bake some bread from scratch, which was exciting. Odessa never had the opportunity to learn how to do such. Back at her old pack, they had women in charge of the cooking, so this was nice for a change. They got to mixing the dough and kneading it. After putting the necessary ingredients while waiting for it to rise, they engaged in random conversation, and Odessa realized that Claudia wasn't so bad after all. And she was beautiful too, with brown eyes and copper-coloured hair. She could have any man eating out of the palm of her hand. So how is marriage life treating you? Luna, please call me Odessa. No need for all those useless titles. I'm not sure I'll ever be used to it. Claudia chuckled as she put the bread in the oven. Very well then, Odessa. The words did not sit naturally in her mouth, but she had to adjust. That's much better. And to answer your question, I guess I could say it's not all that bad. It has its ups and downs. But what matters is that both parties care for each other and are willing to make it work. You're right about that. Odessa, you and the Alpha look so good together. I'm very sure your pups will come out gorgeous. Odessa choked on the water she was sipping. Pups. How could she forget about giving him an heir? They never spoke about it. But she couldn't deny that the thought had been hanging like a dark cloud over the room most of the time. Her face was beet red and her cheeks were flushed crimson as she stuttered out a reply, but nothing left her lips. Claudia gasped in realization. Wait, so you and the Alpha have never— She trailed off, making crude hand gestures that could make a priest blush in horror. Odessa was about to reply when a domineering presence appeared behind her and answered instead. You and the Alpha have never done what? Oh, goddess, please take my life right now.
