Moving On

Vittoria I watched as Dante pushed a very happy Mia on the swing. It was almost comical. This scary as fu*k giant of a man pushing an adorable tiny little girl. The scene pulled at my heart. But I needed to stick to my plans. Work. Get a place and leave the Mafia life behind me. Maybe once I got on my feet, I could leave the city. I was torn out of my thoughts by Dante calling my name. I looked up and he seemed concerned. “I’ve been calling your name for a few minutes princess, penny for your thoughts?” “No, um. Do you know anyone who could babysit? Or a daycare? I mean, I’m assuming not but I thought I’d ask.” He sat down next to me on the bench. “And why would you need that when you’re with her all day?” Sh*t. I knew he wasn’t going to agree with me working. With all the confidence I could muster I finally spoke up. “I applied for a job. It’s full time. So I need someone to watch her.” He stood, setting Mia down on the blanket and placing some puffs next to her. Her favorite. “And why the fu*k do you need a job princess?” “I’m not staying with my brother forever Dante. I need to save money. I want to get my own place. Plus Ray knows where I am now. I need to protect Mia.” “So let me get this straight. You think that getting a job, moving out and getting your own place will somehow make you safer? Where you’ll be alone, with your daughter. Are you losing your fu*king mind? Did Otello make you dumb by eating you out? Because he’s not exactly the sharpest tool.” I was too shocked to be pi*sed at him for calling me dumb. How the he*l did he know? And further more how was Otello still alive? That fu*ker ratted us out. But why? Now it was my turn to be a the a*shole. “Dumb? In that moment yes. I couldn’t even remember my own name.” That did it. I could practically hear his teeth grinding. Good. Dante She was pushing it. First with the talk of living in her own, then the little comment about Otello. I was losing my patient. No other woman had ever gotten to me like this little brat. “Enough. If your daughter wasn’t here, I’d rip your clothes off and take you right here, in front of everyone. Now, you are absolutely not living on your own. You do realize how insane that sounds right? You might as well put a target on your back and sit in the middle of Times Square.” I could tell I was pi*sing her off. And maybe that wasn’t a great approach. But I was not known for keeping a cool head. “Come on, let’s head back. We need to discuss this in private before I lose my patience.” She huffed and rolled her eyes, packing up Mia and stomping to the car. Oh I was punishing her for that. I hoped she would keep building up her punishments. When we got home Giovanni was leaving one of the offices, ledgers in hand. “Hey man, came to get the ledgers for Sky Bar. Money’s disappearing.” Great. Just what we needed. “Bianca runs that club, why the fu*k isn’t she looking into it?” Giovanni was a quiet guy but he hated Bianca the most. She’s the one that introduced his wife to her lover. She pushed for the affair. “Because she’s a dumb useless cu*t. How would I know? Mick told me there were some discrepancies so I’m looking into it.” “Well when you find out exactly where this money is going let me know. I have an itch for blo*d.” “Ya ya you crazy fu*k. I’ll let you know.” He smiled at Tori and Mia. Pinching her cheek. “See you later beauties.” I should be jealous but I wasn’t. Just glad my girls had all of us. He walked out and I turned to Tori. She was rocking Mia gently who was passed out from her exciting day at the park. What a life. “I’ll put her down princess. Then we need to talk.” She nodded and headed to the office. I know I was fu*king this up. I never had a woman I wanted to win so badly. I never wanted any woman more than as a warm hole if I’m being honest. I needed to reel it in, watch some videos on how to not be an explosive a*shole to the woman you’re trying to win. I needed her to come home with me. Both of them. I placed Mia in her crib and stared down at her. She was beautiful. I didn’t see one ounce of that pr*ck in her. Thankfully. I wouldn’t treat her any differently if she looked like him, but it was like watching Tori grow up all over again. I took a deep breath and headed to the office. I did not expect to see Tori sitting in the corner on the couch. Face in her hands, shoulders shaking. What the he*l? “Baby, what’s wrong?” “I’m a failure as a mother. You’re right. I’m putting her in danger going out on my own. I just want to be free. I feel like everywhere I go I feel like I can’t breathe. I just don’t want to be here anymore. In this house. It’s like I’m a child again.” She was right. She would be putting her in danger. But I also understood her not wanting to be in this house anymore. Something happened to her that only Massimo knew about, and it traumatized her. I picked her up and placed her on my lap. Luckily, she didn’t struggle, just nestled her head into my neck. I felt her hot tears on my skin. “You’re an incredible mother princess. I’m sorry if I made you feel like you aren’t. Come stay with me. You and Mia. You will have your own space. I have no motive other than to protect you both and make you happy.” That was mostly true. I did want that. But I also wanted her near me. Both of them. “I don’t know Dante. What will my brother think?” I didn’t give a sh*t about what he would think. He could put a bu*let in me and I’d d*e happy knowing they were mine. “I’ll deal with it when the time comes. He’ll understand. Now pack your sh*t. I’ll send a car to get you in a few hours, after Mia wakes up.” I lifted her chin and kissed her softly. Ya I was a goner for those girls. Vittoria I wasn’t sure what I was doing anymore. All I know is that I wanted out of this house. I wasn’t entirely convinced that Dante didn’t have motives. But it’s not like my entire life didn’t revolve around overbearing men with motives. After I packed what I could I heard a horn honk downstairs. My cue to go. I walked down and instantly regretted my decision. Because of course Bianca would have her plastic self planted by the front door. “Going somewhere? A homeless shelter maybe? When will you realize this family doesn’t want you anymore? You left, and everything was better without you. Now you show back up like you belong.” I ignored her. Walking out to the car and putting Mia’s car seat in. Setting her down gently I closed the door. I didn’t want her to hear anything else. I turned around and was shocked when a hand slapped me across my face. Memories. Trauma. It all hit me at once. Before I could stop myself, my fist connected to her jaw. She stumbled back, the pillar behind her the only thing keeping her upright. Great. Dante would probably be pi*sed. Wouldn’t want to injure his wh*ar. I caught the vague fear in her eyes. Perfect. “Stay the fu*k away from me and my daughter. You think I’m some kind of pathetic victim? Wrong. You ever touch me again I will ki*l you.” She stumbled back, clutching her jaw. “You crazy bi*ch! Dante will hear about this!” Of course he would. And I would gauge my future by his response. With that I got into the passenger seat and we left. I was done putting up with people’s sh*t. Family be da*ned.
