From his view on the shore, the ship’s movements had appeared smooth and graceful, as if it were gliding across the water. In reality, it seemed to lurch forward with an endless rise and fall with each surge of the ocean beneath them, to which his stomach was responding in kind. He clenched his teeth as his gut twisted and a sweat broke out on his brow, prickling his scalp. He did his best to focus on his surroundings instead.
