Chapter 2 Dark Visions Thick, wet leaves slapped Eta’s face as she stumbled through the forest. Roots rose up to grab her, and she fell in a heap. Her heart thundered in her chest as she looked over her shoulder, but she couldn’t remember what she was running from. Looking at her hands and feet, she realized the leaves weren’t red with rainwater, but with blood. Frantically trying to wipe them off, she got to her feet and started running again. Between one tree and the next, everything changed. She was in a dark valley; the sun hidden behind the mountains. It was barren and the sharp rocks bit into her feet.
