9. Nowhere to Run-1

2070 Words

“Dang it, Blue! Outta my way!” Abe stepped over the dog that had tangled itself between his legs as he hurried across his yard. His blood pressure was well past the level his doctor ordered, but he needed to get the old truck up and running. Carrying his box of tools over to the rusted Chevy, he got to work as fast as he could. It was difficult to stay focused when the sheer number of people of people on his property kept growing, reminding him that time was dwindling. In all his life, there had only been one incident in Abe’s life when more than one venari came through his portal. It was back in the seventies and one man had stepped through with a wounded woman leaning on his shoulder; an assignment gone wrong. They had stayed the night in his guest bedroom and were gone before sunrise.
