Unbroken Bonds (Rips POV)

1459 Words
I had been keeping an eye on the house's back door, knowing that Bryn would return from her training session soon. But I didn't expect Aiden Stoick, the alpha who had rejected Bryn, to waltz in. He was flanked by Ryder, who looked very displeased. Tension filled the air, thick enough to cut with a knife. Aiden's presence stirred up Tallen. The memories of what he had done to Bryn came flooding back, and I had to rein in the anger that threatened to consume me forcibly. Our conversation was filled with unspoken anger and resentment, but Aiden's calm demeanor only served to fuel my fury. He dared to address me, his voice a thin veneer over the smugness beneath. "Rip, I understand your anger," Aiden said, his voice dripping with forced composure. "But I'm here to aid you. My matters with Bryn won't interfere with our mission." I clenched my fists at my sides, my wolf snarling within me. It took every ounce of self-control not to leap at him. Aiden had no idea the pain he had caused Bryn, and his calm attitude made my blood boil. My response was visceral, my voice emerging as a low growl reverberating through the hallway. "Don't think I've forgotten what you did to her for a second." With those words, I turned away, Ryder following suit, and we exited the pack house, leaving Aiden behind in the shadow of our unresolved dispute. We began our brisk walk toward the back garden. Just as we were about to pass through the garden's gate, Ryder abruptly spun on his heels to face me, his frustration evident in the way his jaw clenched. "Can you believe that prick?" Ryder snarled, his voice thick with anger. "After the pain he caused Bryn, he dares to ask me how she's been!" I let out a heavy sigh, trying to collect my thoughts. "He doesn't understand, Ryder," I said, my voice tinged with exasperation. Ryder's eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you defending him?" he asked incredulously. I shot him a menacing glare. "I would never defend him; I'm trying to explain the situation." Confusion flickered across Ryder's face as he struggled to grasp what I was getting at. "What situation?" he demanded. I hesitated for a moment, fully aware that what I was about to reveal would shift Ryder's perspective. "Aiden doesn't know that Bryn can still feel the bond," I admitted in a hushed tone. Ryder's expression fell, a mixture of shock and anger. "How could he not know?" "Do you remember the meeting we attended last winter?" I asked, seeking to jog his memory. Ryder furrowed his brow in thought. "It was the Alphas' annual consultation," he recalled. I nodded. "That's right. After the meeting, Aiden pulled me aside." Ryder grimaced at the memory. "I remember. I was about to drag you away from him, but you stopped me." "When we got outside," I continued, "Aiden asked me if the rumors about Bryn being in our pack were true." Ryder's eyes widened with surprise at the revelation. "And what did you tell him?" "I didn't tell him anything," I replied solemnly, "but he seemed genuinely worried about her." Ryder growled low in his throat. "So what? He's probably pretending not to know to make himself look innocent!" I lowered my gaze, my voice barely above a whisper. "No, Ryder. I'm sure he doesn't know because I could see the longing in his eyes. Even though his side of the bond is severed, he still cares for her." "But that doesn't make an-." Before Ryder could finish his sentence, loud cries rang out from the pack house. Oh, goddess, Bryn! I didn't wait for Ryder; I ran to the house, praying, no begging, that she was okay. Appon Arrival The weight of the rejection still hung heavy in the air, an irrevocable proclamation that marked the end of a connection that had defined her existence. The severing of her bond with Aiden Stock was meant to be a moment of liberation, but the reality of it was far more agonizing than I could have ever imagined. As the bond between Bryn and Aiden was forcibly torn asunder, an excruciating wave of anguish swept through both of them. It was as if their very souls were being ripped apart. The haunting sound of Bryn's cry, raw and visceral, reverberated through the corridor, echoing the depths of her suffering. Aiden's own scream pierced the air, a guttural, primal sound that mirrored Bryn's agony. Their bodies convulsed in unison, writhing in pain as the once unbreakable bond shattered into countless irreparable shards. The commotion drew the attention of our pack members, who rushed to the scene, their faces a mixture of confusion and concern. But this was a pain that couldn't be healed with mere words or actions. Aiden lay on the ground. His body contorted in torment, his rut triggered. "Ryder, take him to the infirmary and get him suppressants!" I yelled. Ryder scrambled to get Aiden up before he reached a violent stage. Meanwhile, Bryn and I were locked in our own agonizing struggle. Her heat, ignited by Aiden, showed no signs of abating. Instead, it surged to the forefront of her consciousness, overwhelming her senses and reason. My own desperation grew as I watched Bryn's distress. I approached her carefully; concern etched into every feature of my face. "Bryn, what's happening?" I asked, my voice filled with panic. Bryn managed to utter a response, her body trembling uncontrollably. "I feel like I'm burning alive." At that moment, I felt a need to dominate her, to appease her, to devour her. No. This isn't right; she needs help. With urgency driving me, I scooped Bryn into my arms, her weight feeling insignificant against my strength. I carried her swiftly into my chamber and laid her gently on the large bed before rushing to the bathroom. I prepared a bath with cold water and mind-linked Ryder to get Bryn suppressants. In a few moments, I heard Ryder outside the bathroom window. "I got the herbs, catch," he yelled as he tossed a small pouch to the window. "Thank you, Ryder. Can you bring some ice as well?" I asked. "Sure thing!" he replied, and then he was gone. I returned to the bedroom, but suddenly, my body began to tingle. I froze as I lifted my eyes to the bed. Bryn was no longer lying down. At that moment, she was stripped bare, her vulnerability and desires laid bare for me to see. "Mate," Bryn growled, her voice low and husky, her eyes glowing deep, blood-red as she stalked toward me. My eyes widened in shock and a hint of fear. Bryn's instincts were taking over; her body flushed with her heat, her scent irresistible. I stepped back, torn between my desire for her and my duty to protect her from herself. "Bryn, I can't," I managed to say, my voice strained with the internal battle. "You're in pain, and this isn't the right way. But Bryn couldn't, or perhaps wouldn't, hold back any longer. The intensity of her need was overwhelming, her instincts driving her forward. She pushed me onto the bed and straddled me. Our eyes locked in a charged moment, a mixture of desire and longing swirling in her gaze. "Bryn, we can't," I pleaded, knowing that if I let this play out, we would both regret it. But her wolf was now in control, her desires undeniable. She leaned down, capturing my lips in a searing kiss, and her body pressed against mine. Goddess, fu*k, this is amazing, Tallan growled. Let me take ov- "I brought the ic- OH MY GODDESS...MY EYES!" A voice screamed. Bryn tore her lips away from mine, and we both turned our heads toward the door, our arousal-laden moment shattered. "Ryder," she panted out, her voice laden with desperation and embarrassment. Tallen chuckled; give her a moment and- "GET OUT!" Bryn shrieked. There it is, he barked out in laughter. Ryder's bewildered expression matched the shock on my own face as he retorted, "NO! And you," he pointed an accusatory finger at me, "You should know better than to take advantage of a woman in heat." If only he knew what really happened. He then turned his glare toward Bryn. "And YOU," his voice rose, "take those herbs that I KINDLY got from the healers, and get your horny as* out here!" With that, Bryn dragged herself off of me, took the herbs, and began her walk toward Ryder. I was left in the room, still in shock and annoyed with the state Bryn left me in. "FU*KKK," I groaned. What am I going to do?
