It had been a week since the packs arrived, and the camp was alive with activity. The tension in the air was palpable as the pack continued to prepare. But today was different. Today was the day Aiden was supposed to arrive.
I couldn't deny the anxiety that coiled in my stomach. For years, I had played out this moment in my mind, ready to give Aiden the rejection he deserved, to break the bond that had tormented me for far too long. I was prepared to rid myself of his presence finally.
Aiden's arrival became imminent as the sun began its descent, casting long shadows over the camp. I went through my training session with determination, channeling my anxiety into every strike and every movement. Ryder was by my side, as always, his presence grounding me.
But when the session ended and I made my way back to the pack house, I couldn't ignore the knot of unease that had settled in my chest. I had dreaded this day for years, and now it was here.
As I approached the back door of the house, I heard hushed voices inside. I paused, not wanting to intrude, and that's when I heard it—a low, menacing growl that sent shivers down my spine.
Peering through the partially open door, I saw Aiden standing in the dimly lit hallway, flanked by Rip and Ryder. Aiden's presence was like a punch to the gut, and I had to fight to keep my composure.
Their conversation was tense, filled with unspoken anger and resentment. Rip despised Aiden for what he had done to me, and I could sense the alpha's barely restrained fury.
"Rip, I understand your anger," Aiden said, his voice calm but laced with tension. "But I'm here to aid you. My matters with Bryn won't interfere with our mission."
Rip's response was sharp, his voice a low growl. "Don't think I've forgotten what you did to her for a second." With that, Rip and Ryder strode past Aiden and exited the pack house.
I couldn't linger any longer, not with Aiden so close. I needed to confront him, to end this once and for all. But goddess, this is all so terrifying. Go now! Before he leaves, Killa urges. Steadying myself, I pushed open the door and entered.
But as I did, a low growl sounded behind me, and I froze. Slowly, I turned to see Aiden. When did he move? His eyes glowed with an unnatural gold hue, his canines slightly elongated. It was his wolf.
"Mate," Aiden growled out, and my heart plummeted.
I couldn't breathe. This was different from how it was supposed to go. My plan to reject him, to sever our bond, had just crumbled into dust. Killa, my wolf, trembled with excitement, but all I felt was a deep, gnawing disgust. Why was my body reacting to him? After everything he put me through-
Aiden began to stalk towards me, and panic surged through me. My mind raced, and I couldn't process the chaos unfolding. My voice came out in a frantic scream. "Don't come any closer, Aiden!"
But he continued to advance, his gaze unrelenting. "I am not your mate! You rejected me," I cried out, my voice trembling with fear and anger.
Aiden's face tensed, his wolf speaking through him. "I accept you. My ignorant human doesn't."
"You are mine, Bryn. You belong to me," he growled, closing the distance between us. His eyes trailed down my body. He was breathing heavily, and I could feel my body getting hot.
I began to tremble, but I knew what I had to do. I stepped back, and I could see the confusion in his eyes. But I couldn't allow myself to be trapped in this twisted, unwanted bond any longer. Summoning all the strength I could muster, I declared firmly, "I, Bryn Blood of the Black Moon pack, hereby reject you, Aiden Stoick."
