Chapter 3: Bonds of Friendship 8 hours later As the moon hung high in the night sky, casting a silvery glow over the camp, I found myself seated by the crackling fire, deep in conversation with my best friend, Ryder Cassidy. Ryder was the pack's Beta but was also my confidant and partner in many of our training sessions. We had formed a bond that ran as deep as any familial tie. Even though most of the time, he annoyed the sh*t out of me. "So, Bry," Ryder began, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, "you think you can take down old Mardock blindfolded?" I rolled my eyes and grinned. "My sixth sense is all I need, Ryder. Besides, I've trained you well enough that you could take him on yourself. Ryder chuckled, his laughter echoing through the night air. "Well, if that's the case, I'll just sit this out and let you handle it." We both knew that wasn't true. Ryder was as much a warrior as I was, if not more so. He was my right hand in every battle we'd faced. We had a brother-and-sister relationship, complete with playful taunts and unwavering support. "Yeah, just Bry here planning to take down the rogue king singlehandedly. No big deal." Rip's gaze flickered between us, and I couldn't help but feel a hint of jealousy emanating from him. It was a possessiveness I had sensed before but had never truly understood. He was our alpha and had responsibilities that extended beyond my training, but this was different. It was personal. With a subtle nod, Rip acknowledged our conversation. "Good. I'm glad to see the two of you preparing diligently. But I have an announcement." I shifted my attention to Rip, curious about what he had to say. "What is it, Alpha Rip?" A shadow crossed Rip's features, and he spoke with a gravity that left no room for doubt. "In preparation for the upcoming battle, I contacted several neighboring packs for assistance. We'll need all the support we can get." My heart raced as he listed the names of the packs that had agreed to aid us. The final name hung in the air, like a tantalizing cliffhanger that left me breathless. "And one more pack," Rip continued, his voice low and reluctant, I exchanged a glance with Ryder, and together, we waited anxiously. Please don't say it. Don't you dare say that name. "The last pack that will be aiding us is-
