Chapter 1

In the heart of the African Savannah, a lush forest flourished, teeming with life. Trees, adorned with vibrant flowers, danced in the gentle breeze, their roots feasting on the nourishing waters of the swamp. The sun's warm rays coaxed them to grow, their leaves rustling softly like a chorus of whispers.

Hanging on the trees, a mischievous monkey, Max, revelled in his notoriety. With a cocoa pod in hand, he'd take a bite, then playfully hurl it at his fellow primates, who'd scatter with a chorus of squeaks and chirps. His antics earned him the title of "King of Mischief."

As the forest came alive, a colony of bees buzzed on the mountain, their humming growing louder as they worked tirelessly to build their hive. Soldiers darted in and out, bearing sweet-smelling flowers for their beloved queen and king. The royal couple basked in the luxury of their subjects' servitude, their comfort and dominance unrivalled.

But amidst the tranquility, danger lurked. Snakes, like the cunning cobra, slithered silently, their presence striking fear into the hearts of the other animals. The monkeys trembled with terror, scurrying from tree to tree at the mere rustle of leaves.

This enchanted forest remained untouched by human hands;its secrets and magic hidden from prying eyes. Legends spoke of ghosts and demons dwelling within, keeping even the bravest of adventurers at bay.

Yet, the forest's inhabitants knew that soon,some human tenants would arrive, bringing with them stories of their own. The lions, hyenas, and elephants waited with bated breath, their ears perked up, ready to welcome the new arrivals to this mystical realm.

To Kemi this was more than a trance.Her mind clung to its reality.She wondered why what she read in Ann's book was haunting her.The obsession with the fauna and flora was soothing.

Dreaming of a romantic getaway with her partner, someone she's deeply in love with,she imagined escaping to a magical place where they could reconnect, strengthen their bond, and create unforgettable memories.

Kemi became enchanted by the descriptions of the forest's breathtaking beauty, mystical creatures, and whimsical atmosphere. She began to envision the forest as the perfect setting for her dream getaway.She told no one,not even Ann.

Kemi pictured herself and her partner strolling hand-in-hand through the forest's lush paths, discovering hidden trasures.

Max's playful, flirtatious nature resonated with Kemi's desire for a passionate, whirlwind romance. His antics and the chaos that followed represented the excitement and unpredictability of falling in love.

Kemi and Ann, two university students, strolled towards the cafeteria on a sunny afternoon. Kemi, a campus journalist and chemistry student, was known for her political views and fashion sense. Ann, an animal science student, was her friend and confidante.

As the two buddies walked out of the cafeteria, heading towards the hostel, they didn't notice a pair of eyes watching them from afar. Tunde, a fellow student, sat alone at a table, nursing a cold cup of coffee. He had been secretly crushing on Kemi for months, and seeing her leave with Ann was almost too much to bear.His 'good-bye' was cold and feverish.

Tunde's eyes clouded with envy and longing as he gazed at Kemi's receding figure. He felt a lump form in his throat, and he fought back tears. Why couldn't he be the one dating her? Why did she have to choose someone else?

He sighed heavily, feeling the weight of his unrequited love. He had tried to get her attention in class, but she never seemed to notice him. He had even tried to join the school newspaper, hoping to work alongside her, but she was always too busy with her own projects.

Tunde slumped in his chair, feeling defeated. He couldn't compete with Kemi's suitor's wealth, power and charm. He could only watch from afar, hoping that someday Kemi would see him in a different light.

But for now, he was stuck in the shadows, nursing a broken heart.As they walked hand In hand , Kemi mentioned her plans for the night, hinting at a romantic escapade with either Prof. Tok, a charming and scholarly chemistry professor, or Alhaji Garuba, a wealthy businessman. Ann joked about Kemi's choices.

"Professor's Pet," she teased.

Kemi blushed but defended him. "He believes in me, Ann. And he's kind."

Ann chuckled. "I'm sure he is, Kemi. You're a star in the making."

Kemi's eyes danced with mirth. "You're just jealous of my charm."

Kemi applied her lipstick. That was when her phone buzzed. Alhaji's deep voice sent shivers down her spine. "Hey, beautiful. I'm looking forward to tonight." Kemi's heart skipped a beat.

Ann raised an eyebrow. "Someone's got it bad," she joked.

Kemi grinned. "Maybe I do."

As she helped Kemi zip up her dress, Ann couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy. Kemi seemed to have it all – beauty, brains, and a charming date. Why couldn't she find someone special like that?

She pushed the thought aside, focusing on supporting her friend. "You look amazing, Kemi. Alhaji won't know what hit him."

Kemi grinned. "Thanks, Ann. You're always there for me."

Kemi stood still in front of the mirror, smoothing out her dress; she couldn't help but think about the two men in her life. Alhaji, with his charming smile and generous heart, had swept her off her feet. But Prof. Tok, with his piercing eyes and intellectual charm, had a hold on her heart too.

"Why do I have to choose between them?" she thought, sighing. "Can't I just have them both?" She smiled to herself, knowing it was a fantasy. But for tonight, she was going to put aside her doubts and enjoy Alhaji's company.

While applying her lipstick, she thought about how different her life would be with each of them. With Alhaji, she'd have a life of luxury and adventure. With Prof. Tok, she'd have a life of intellectual pursuits and passion.

"But what about love?" she thought, her mind wandering. Did she truly love either of them, or was she just infatuated with the idea of being loved?

She pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the night ahead. She was going to enjoy herself, no matter what. And who knows, maybe tonight would reveal what her heart truly desired.
