“Who’s there?”
Before she could get close, the man suddenly barked out coldly.
Xia Qiao was startled, and just as she was about to speak, a dark shadow leaped out from the side and pounced on her.
“Ah!” Xia Qiao felt a rush of foul air hit her face as she was pinned to the ground. Her shoulder was scratched, and a roar like a wild beast’s filled her ears.
Xia Qiao looked over in fright, her soul nearly leaving her body.
It was a ferocious-looking large dog, baring its teeth and showing its sharp, white fangs. Its claws were pressing on her shoulder, with its sharp nails occasionally protruding from its pads, as if ready to pierce into her flesh at any moment.
“Help—”
“Don’t move!” Pei Lichuan shouted sharply, stopping Xia Qiao.
“Yue Guang! Come back!”
The large dog named Yue Guang glanced at Xia Qiao, snorted, and then withdrew its claws and ran back to Pei Lichuan’s side, sitting down.
Xia Qiao’s heart raced, her legs weak as she struggled to get up.
“Xia Mo’er, why aren’t you leaving?” Pei Lichuan’s tone was harsh, and he reached out to pat Yue Guang’s head, a chilling smile curling his lips.
“If you don’t leave, do you want to see what it feels like to have Yue Guang bite your neck off?”
Xia Qiao felt a chill in her neck, her entire body bristling with fear.
This man was truly infuriating!
Xia Qiao clenched the thin blanket she held, realizing she had been worried about him catching a cold!
“Pei Lichuan, you bastard!” Xia Qiao shouted angrily, throwing the blanket at him with force before turning and running.
As she entered the door, she ran into Qin Butler.
“Madam, how did you get hurt?”
Xia Qiao’s face turned pale, covering the scratch on her shoulder. “I’m fine!”
Qin Butler frowned and said, “I’ll check on the young master and Yue Guang. I’ll get some medicine for you later.”
With that, Qin Butler quickly went out to find Pei Lichuan.
Seeing Pei Lichuan sitting under the big tree in a daze, Qin Butler approached him. “Young master, I heard Yue Guang barking. What happened?”
Pei Lichuan’s face was cold as he held the blanket Xia Qiao had thrown, astonished.
Was she bringing him a blanket?
Pei Lichuan’s expression grew colder, his thin lips curling into a chilling smile. “She brought this on herself by provoking Yue Guang.”
After coldly dismissing her, Pei Lichuan tossed the blanket onto the ground. “Who needs her to meddle!”
“Young master, it’s chilly outside. You should go inside,” Qin Butler said, pushing the wheelchair while continuing, “Madam is injured, and we don’t know how serious it is. If it’s severe, we should have Dr. Mu take a look.”
Once inside the room, Pei Lichuan said nothing.
“Yue Guang, go to sleep.” Qin Butler sighed inwardly, leading Yue Guang away.
Pei Lichuan stayed alone in the room, feeling that the estate and himself had been abandoned by the world, the silence around him overwhelming.
Pei Lichuan clenched his fists, the warmth of the blanket still lingering on his hands.
“Damn it!” Pei Lichuan gritted his teeth.
The next moment, he turned the handwheel to look for Xia Qiao.
Walking down the long corridor, he heard a woman’s surprised voice: “Qin Butler, I’m fine. No need to call the doctor.”
“Madam, clean the wound and apply some medicine. Have the doctor check it in the morning.”
Pei Lichuan heard Qin Butler’s footsteps and wanted to turn away.
But it was too late. Qin Butler had already seen him. Qin Butler only nodded at Pei Lichuan before quietly leaving.
Pei Lichuan felt a moment of guilt.
He pushed his wheelchair closer and saw half of Xia Qiao’s porcelain-white face and her eyes, which were brighter than the stars.
Xia Qiao’s injury was on her shoulder. She was bowing her head, struggling to clean the wound with a cotton swab.
“Hey…” After trying hard for a while, Xia Qiao looked dejected.
Suddenly, the cotton swab was taken from her hand, and Pei Lichuan’s hoarse voice said, “I’ll do it.”
