“Who is it?”
Xia Qiao, trembling, opened the door and saw Butler Qin holding a towel. Her eyelids twitched. “Butler Qin, what’s the matter?”
“Madam, Master is taking a bath. Could you please bring him this towel?” Butler Qin spoke calmly and, noticing Xia Qiao's confusion, added, “Since it's Master’s wedding, and the servants have been given time off by the old gentleman, only you can take care of Master now.”
With that, he handed the towel to Xia Qiao. “Please take care of Master.”
Xia Qiao's eyes widened in shock. Her heart raced. She had just escaped from Pei Lichuan's grasp, and now she was about to face him again. This was like seeking her own death.
Her neck felt cold, and her heart sank.
But Xia Qiao had no choice.
She had been sent by the Xia family to be Pei Lichuan's wife, and her role was to take care of him for the rest of his life.
Her fingers curled tightly around the towel. With a deep breath, she made her way to the opposite room.
She turned the handle and entered quietly.
The room was silent, as was the bathroom.
“Hm?” Not hearing any sounds, Xia Qiao felt both relieved and worried.
Conflicted, Xia Qiao considered that Pei Lichuan didn’t like her, and she had no need to push herself on him. However, disregarding personal feelings, Pei Lichuan’s condition was serious. If something went wrong, it could be a matter of life and death.
“Better check it out!” Xia Qiao decided, her resolve firming as she opened the bathroom door.
The next moment, her eyes fell on a fuzzy head and half a face.
Pei Lichuan was asleep, draped over the edge of the bathtub.
When he was still, the icy aura around him dissipated, leaving only a sense of loneliness. Xia Qiao’s heart ached as if struck by something heavy.
The man was extraordinarily handsome: dark brows like sharp swords, curling eyelashes, a high nose, and lips that were a striking hue. His features were chiseled to perfection.
A man like him, with his tall, well-proportioned frame and impressive background, would make many women swoon.
Unfortunately…
Three years ago, when Pei Lichuan had his car accident, Xia Qiao had been out of the country. By the time she returned, most of the news had been suppressed, leaving her with only fragmented information about him.
Her knowledge of this man was limited to hearsay.
“Pei Lichuan! Wake up… You can’t sleep here; you’ll catch a cold!” Xia Qiao touched his shoulder and gently pushed him.
At her touch, Pei Lichuan woke immediately.
He opened his eyes, showing a flicker of confusion before his damp fingers tightly grasped hers, roughly pushing her away. “Who told you to come in!”
His eyes were filled with frost, glaring at Xia Qiao with evident displeasure.
Xia Qiao, who had been crouching, lost her balance from the push and fell heavily to the floor, her tailbone throbbing with pain.
Anger surged within her. This man was truly infuriating!
“Pei Lichuan, I only came to bring you a towel! And why are you so harsh with a woman? Aren’t you a man?” Xia Qiao’s frustration boiled over.
“Whether I’m a man or not, do you have any doubts?” Pei Lichuan’s cold reply was laced with scorn.
Xia Qiao was taken aback. After a moment, her ears turned red, and frustration bubbled up in her throat. “You!”
“Pei Lichuan, you’re being too unreasonable!”
Clenching her teeth, Xia Qiao set the towel down and stormed out without looking back.
Angry, huh?
Pei Lichuan smirked. He had thought she was calm and unflappable!
Reluctantly, he didn't care much about her marrying him.
Watching her storm out, Pei Lichuan’s eyes flashed with mockery. “Stop!”
