Ruby Wynter steps out of the car and onto the bustling streets of New York. She has arrived at the Nightwalker pack's territory just hours before.
But she can't shake off the feeling of restlessness.
As the newly crowned Alpha of the Greenwood pack, she is about to start a new life as the Luna to a strange man she only met once when she was still a child, and she feels reluctant.
So tonight, she just wants to let loose.
Ruby slips into the crowded club, the music and laughter enveloping her like a warm hug.
She makes her way to the bar, her eyes scanning to be sure there is no one she knows.
Although the chance is quite slim. Just like she wants, to be alone and free from her duties one night before she gets tied down again.
The bartender, a handsome young man with piercing ocean eyes, catches her attention.
"Hi," she waves at him, and he came over to her side, his roll up shirt revealed his bare arm and his aura as he stood in front of Ruby got her excited.
“Yes Ma’am” he answered, bowing slightly and Ruby stare at his honey brown hair and grin.
"What can I get for you?" he asks, flashing a heart melting smile.
Ruby smiles back, tugging her hair behind her ear.
"Just a drink, please. Something strong." The bartender raises an eyebrow.
Ruby seems to catch a familiarity in his eyes but discard it as he turned away.
"Coming right up."
He nods and turn aside behind the counter then grab a bottle and glass, preparing one of their signature. Ruby can’t help but notice the way his muscle flex beneath his shirt and she chuckles.
She feels a flutter in her chest and wonders how old he is. Definitely old enough for her to sleep with.
Ruby scolds herself for having such thoughts about a stranger and feels a bit ashamed when he came closer to hand her the drink.
Their fingers touch as she takes it, and Ruby feels a jolt of electricity; she knows she is in trouble.
"Thanks," he says, taking a sip of the drink.
"How long have you been working here?" she asks, trying to find out more about him.
He tells her.
"My name is Logan, before you ask," he adds, and Ruby smiles again. Her heart is racing now.
"I'm Ruby," she replies, biting her lower lip carelessly, and can't believe how fast she got attracted to him.
"Bye then," Logan waves, and Ruby hurries to her feet, pulls his shirt as he turned away and stops him.
Logan turns around, and their eyes lock onto hers; Ruby feels like she is drowning in their depths and can hear her own heart racing as she takes in his alluring scent again.
And then, without another word, Logan leans in and kisses her, a kiss that stopped almost as quick as it begins.
Ruby’s eyes widen, and she wants to take a minute to think about what she is about to do, but his alluring eyes doesn’t allow her to do that.
Her heart pounds in her chest as he reaches out and grasps her wrist, as if asking for her permission before pulling her closer to himself.
Ruby's lips part, her breath hot against his skin.
Logan's fingers tighten around her wrist, his thumb tracing circles on her pulse point.
They stumble through the crowded bar, their bodies entwined as they find an enclosed space, a small room.
The night air is cool against their skin, causing goosebumps but they don't notice it.
Logan's mouth crashes down on Ruby's, the kiss explosive and all-consuming.
Ruby's hands grasp at Logan's shirt, pulling him closer as their tongues tangle in a fierce, passionate kiss.
Logan's hands roam over her body, his fingers tracing the curves of her waist and hips.
Ruby moans in his ears, her voice uncontrollable.
Logan's senses are overwhelmed by the scent of Ruby's skin, the taste of her lips, and the feel of her curves beneath him.
When Ruby felt her clothes dishevel, she simply let out a pleasurable moan that rings in her mouth all night..
When she opened her eyes, it is morning and the noise in the surrounding has died down.
Getting up in a hurry, she picks her clothes and run out of the room ignoring the sleeping face beside her and return to the hotel.
Ruby meets her brother, Pete Wynter, waiting for her and he seem a bit anxious.
Grateful he didn’t ask her any question about where she has been, Ruby gets inside and takes a bath then prepare to meet her future mate and Alpha.
In less than an hour, she is standing by the car waiting to convey her in a knee-length ash dress, and applies a light makeup to conceal the hickeys on her neck.
"Sorry I wasn't able to meet you last night; I had something important to attend to," Ryder McCormick, the Alpha of the Nightwalker pack and her fiance, says as they settle in his office.
"It's alright," Pete says and turns to Ruby, who seems a little nervous.
"Yes," she mutters, taking a seat beside Pete, and Ryder also sits.
"You should have stayed at the pack house last night. I made preparations," Ryder says, staring right at her.
"Yes, I just wanted to see the city before settling in," she tells him and heaves.
"I must say you are a beauty," Ryder comments, but Ruby feels awkward and just nods.
"Thank you. The stories I have heard about you also didn't do justice to you," she replies.
Although she doesn't feel any attraction to him right now, she has to admit that he is really good-looking and down-to-earth.
"Are you ready for the engagement ceremony?" Ruby nods, trying to smile.
"Yes, I am ready."
"Great," Ryder says and calls in the Beta.
"George, take the Luna to where she will change into her dress for the ceremony and get her ready." He instructs, and George nods, paying respect to Ruby, who smiles back at him.
"The ceremony will start in two hours," Ryder adds, and Ruby stands up to follow him out, with a disappointed look on her face.
She thought maybe he would be reluctant about the whole arrangement and let them get to know each other like she wanted, but he just wanted to push ahead with the engagement like everyone else.
Feeling a bit cold in the dress she is putting on, Ruby sits down alone in the room, waiting for the time for the engagement to start, and checks her phone to see a message from her best friend and Beta, Linda.
"How is it going?"
"Not good" Ruby texts back, but doesn't get a chance to see Linda's response when Ryder walks in, looking hot in the cream suit he's changed into.
"Are you ready, my Luna?" he asks, and stretches his hand forward to her. Ruby takes it with a smile, and gets up.
"I'm sorry to rush things, but our packs need this, and our marriage is the starting solution to stop the impending disaster," he says, and Ruby nods her head in understanding.
She has always been pushing off the marriage, but her uncle's death a few months ago made her change her mind.
After him, more werewolves had been found dead without a cause for their death, and everyone believed it was the prophecy coming true.
"It's time," George comes in to call them, and soon Ruby stands in front of everyone, just like when she was crowned Alpha a few days ago in London, and watches the beam on their faces.
One of the elders at the pack begins to speak, and finally asks them to exchange the rings.
"Where is my brother?" Ryder whispers to George, and both of them search the crowd with their eyes.
"You have a brother?" Ruby whispers to him, surprised.
"Yes. He is just..."
"The ring is here," Logan says, finding his way to the front, and Ruby's brain freezes, and she stutters.
"What is he doing here?" she asks no one in particular, but Ryder answers her.
"He is my younger brother, Logan."
"What?" Ruby screams in her head, and opens her eyes wide in surprise and recognition. She quickly turns her face away to the other side, so Logan doesn't see her.
"Here, brother. Congratulations," Logan says, and gives the small box to Ryder.
"Sister-in-law," he calls, and Ruby is forced to turn around.
"You would have met him yesterday if you came to the pack house," Ryder says, and doesn't fail to notice the pale look on her face.
Fuby feels like burying herself in the ground below her, mortified. Of course, she met him yesterday, and let him devour her all night!
