The taxi driver's voice broke the silence. "Where can I take you?" he asked, looking at them in the rearview mirror.
Lexi hesitated for a moment before answering. "Just drive around the city for a bit," she said quietly. "We need to make sure we're not being followed."
The driver nodded and continued driving. Lexi and Rachel sat in silence, watching the city go by.
As they drove, Lexi's mind was racing with thoughts. Who was behind the conspiracy? And what did they want?
She looked at Rachel, who was sitting quietly beside her. "We need to come up with a plan," Lexi said quietly.
Rachel nodded, looking determined. "I've been thinking," she said. "We need to get to the bottom of this conspiracy. We need to find out who's behind it and what they want."
Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of determination. "You're right," she said. "We need to keep digging."
As they continued to drive through the city, Lexi and Rachel began to formulate a plan. They would keep investigating, keep digging until they uncovered the truth.
No matter what it took.
After a while, the taxi driver spoke up again. "Where can I take you now?" he asked.
Lexi thought for a moment before answering. "Take us to the library," she said quietly.
The driver nodded and headed towards the library. As they arrived, Lexi and Rachel got out of the taxi and walked into the library.
They went straight to the computer section and started searching for any information they could find on Ethan's family and the government official.
As they searched, Lexi's eyes widened as she read through the articles. There were rumors of corruption and bribery, but nothing concrete.
Rachel looked at her, concerned. "What's wrong?" she asked.
Lexi hesitated before answering. "I think we're in over our heads," she said quietly. "This conspiracy goes all the way to the top."
Rachel's eyes widened as she realized the implications. "We have to be careful," she said quietly.
Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of determination. "We will," she said. "We'll keep digging until we uncover the truth."
As they continued to search, Lexi's phone buzzed with a text message. She hesitated for a moment before answering it.
The message was from an unknown number. "Meet me at the coffee shop at 5pm," it read.
Lexi's heart sank as she read the message. Who was this? And what did they want?
She showed the message to Rachel, who looked at her with concern. "What are we going to do?" Rachel asked.
Lexi hesitated for a moment before answering. "We'll go to the meeting," she said quietly. "But we'll be careful."
Rachel nodded, looking determined. "We'll face whatever comes next together."
As they left the library, Lexi couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She looked around, but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
But as they walked, Lexi noticed a figure following them. A tall, dark-haired man who seemed to be keeping a safe distance.
Lexi's heart was racing as she realized what was happening. They were being followed.
She looked at Rachel, who was walking beside her. "We're being followed," Lexi said quietly.
Rachel's eyes widened as she looked around. "What do we do?" she asked.
Lexi hesitated for a moment before answering. "Keep walking," she said quietly. "But stay close to me."
As they continued to walk, Lexi's eyes were fixed on the man following them. She was determined to lose him, to keep Rachel safe.
But as they turned a corner, Lexi realized that they were trapped. The man was blocking their path, a sinister smile spreading across his face.
Lexi's heart was racing as she realized what was happening. They were in danger.
And then, everything went black.
