Crimson eye

First times

"Lana ! You made it !", Emily exclaimed.

"Em I couldn't let you walk the parade alone at this hour. I will study for the test later.."

"Aaw ! Do I have the best roommate or what !"

"Yeah you do but lets keep it on the downlow, people gathered here may be the family members of the lost ones."

"The lost ones' family abandoned them that's why they ended up at Olkshire", remarked a tall, ruggedly handsome boy. His grey eyes were hooded and gave off a seriousness that corroborated with his calm tone. Lana was not used to looking up at someone as she stood at 6 feet herself, but the young man towered over her. It was a strange unfamiliar feeling.

"I don't believe that ! Families don't just give up on each other. I'm sure they sent them to Olkshire with best intentions in their heart. No one could have predicted such a terrible outcome", replied Lana.

The tall brunette scoffed.

"You are too naive, little girl", as he said this he bent down to look right into Lana's eyes who was flustered at being called little for the first time in the longest time she could recall ! He could tell that he had made her felt uneasy and he smirked and walked away.

"Oh my GOSH ! Dan Whitt just talked to you ! This is crazy!", Emily beamed with joy and jumped in excitement, her ponytails bounced. She was always like this, happy, cheerful and sweet. But Lana felt annoyed. A strange boy had just looked down on her there is nothing remotely exiting about it ! 

"He mocked me Emily ! And I didn't even say anything back !"

"Haven't you heard about him? He is the Witty Whitt ! No one can talk back to him, he always gets the last laugh ! Even the professors don't stand a chance !"

"What ? Witty Whitt ? Who came up with such a ridiculous nickname ?", Lana giggled. Someone who goes around being Witty Whitt, the joke's on him she thought.

"Lana you need to step out of our room more often ! He is a 3rd year student at the med school. He is on top of his class and extremely popular ! He even helped me once with organic chemistry ! I met him in the library, I was really stressed about my weekly test and he noticed that ! He is such a nice guy. I'm sure he must feel angry at the family members because the first missing lady's family did not even come down here when the police asked. And almost everyone in town does think that Olkshire is a place where the rich dump their old so that they can live without worrying about them !"

"Olkshire is so exquisite ! It is like a luxury resort with all amenities ! I did an internship there last summer, they treat the clients like VIPs. Did you know each resident has a personal nurse who stays with them from the time they wake up to the time they sleep ? Besides the doctors visit them during rounds and one stays on campus 24x7. In case of emergencies each floor as a medical room ready with all equipment. I feel like the families send them there because of those reasons."

"Wow ! Lana you sound like a walking advertisement for Olkshire ! Hahaha." Emily patted Lana on the back as they walked holding candles along with 100s of other residents who had all gathered together in the city hall. 

...

"Em... I have been thinking about the disappearances ... The CCTV footage never showed any of the victims leave the main gait and no outsider came in", Lana whispered as she turned in her bed to lay on her side with her head resting on her hand, "So...", now her voice getting louder, "I have deduced ! That they are still inside the campus and the culprit must be one of the staff !"

"Lana Honey you're not a detective, don't think too much about it or you will have to end up changing your plans ! But damn ! Girl that is one nice deduction !", Emily gave her a thumb up and went under her pink blanket.

Lana turned back and felt like she needed to go back to Olkshire. Was there some place she didn't notice during her 1 month internship ?

Whenever ! Where ever ! We are meant to be together !

"Ughh ! I hate loud music ! Gives me a headache", said Lana as she awkwardly stood at the dance floor.

"Lana loosen up a bit ! Semester exams just ended we have to partaayyyy !", Emily exclaimed. 

Emily was always energetic and no different on the dance floor while Lana who hated drawing attention thanks to her stature did not like being there at all. She felt the loud bass resonate through her but she could not relax. She wanted to get out of there. That's when suddenly the loud music stopped. People were cheering for someone who was seated on a chair holding a Cherry Sunburst Les Paul. The lights were focused on him, he had a radiant glow on his face as he sang with his eyes closed. Lana instinctively walked closer to the stage. Emily tucked on her shoulder and said, "Laaanaaa ! Honey did you just get wooed by the Witty Whitt ?"

Lana, startled looked away and said, "I didn't realize its him I just wanted to see clearly so i walked over there. The lights are too bright to see and he is wearing white ! "

"Yes ! White like an angel ! My eyes are blessed ! Come on don't be so uptight he is a total eye candy !", Emily giggled as she put her cheeks in her hands and leaned over the railing enjoying the beautiful song.

"He can sing ! I'll give you that but he is not that handsome ! He is just a giant and that's why people notice him !", Remarked Lana. Emily was so mesmerized she didn't hear a single word Lana uttered. Lana looked towards the stage wondering if what she was feeling was similar to how her friend is acting now and just the thought of it made her uncomfortable. To look at someone like they are the only person in a room crowded with people, it was too corny for her. She instead focused on the beautiful Les Paul and the melodious song while promising herself that she won't let the double W get to her. 

When the song ended Emily clapped the hardest and jumped again in the way she always did, exited she turned towards her friend whose face had hardened with a stern gaze. I wish Lana would believe in love again someday.. She thought to herself as she recalled how her tall friend had once shared the same glittery eyes as her when they were freshmen. She had met an adorable guy and dated him only to find out that he had been dared to ask out the tall freshman. Ever since that time her friend had felt more conscious about her height. She wished she could make Lana see how amazing and powerful she looks when she walks into the room but instead she chose to give her a hug. 

"You got this ! Honey", Emily whispered as she folded her arms around Lana pulling her out of her distant gaze.

"What is this for? Em you're so weird sometimes !", Lana hugged her back as she said so ! She had found a friend who knew exactly what she needed. She felt grateful.

"Lets go get some drinks ! Woohoo !", Emily screamed and grabbed Lana's hand and dragged her through the dense crowd to come out at the other end of the club. 

"I don't drink Em. You know that !", Lana sighed as she fixed her hair.

"You can have one of your non alcoholic blue juice blends !", Em rolled her eyes as she made the order at the bar. The bartender knew right away what she meant and quickly fashioned two drinks handing them over to Em. "Here ! One shot okay ?", as she was about to give the glass to Lana she noticed someone standing behind her.

"Dan !!! You were amazing ! Your voice is perfect ! Here this is for you !", she instead gave the glass to Dan. Lana looked at her with her eyes wide open !

"Em ! That was supposed to be mine !", Lana exclaimed.

"Honey you didn't even want it ! Here come !",  Emily pulled Lana over, "This is my wonderful friend, Lana, Lana this is Dan, a wonderful senior who helped me out ! I believe you two should get along together ! Since you exactly didn't start off at the right page !"

Lana and Dan shook hands. Lana wasn't used to feeling a grip wider than hers, it was strange, she thought.

"So Lana, are you planning on joining a med school ?", Dan inquired in a polite tone.

"Recently I have had a sudden change of heart... I'm thinking of switching majors to criminal psychology."

As Lana said this Emily almost choked on her drink and yelled, "What ! I didn't mean it literally ! You can't change majors now ! we are in our final year !".

"Don't worry Em I knew before that night that I didn't belong here."

"Good for you, at least you figured it out before you started Med School and wasted your parents money.", Dan remarked.

"Why do you think my parents would pay my tuition ?, Lana asked, annoyed.

"Well, because you think family never gives up on you. So when their precious daughter decided what she wants to be when she grows up they will offer to pay. Right ?"

"Why Dan ? You sound resentful. Your family doesn't consider you precious ?", Lana looked right back at him this time she was holding her ground. She wouldn't let him walk away without settling the score.

"What makes you think I have one to begin with ? You are just a little girl who grew up in a protected environment, too sheltered to see how cruel the real world is, too naïve to even begin to comprehend its complexities and too dumb to throw away three years of her life over a sudden change of heart !", Dan said it all in one breath.

"Dan you are being harsh !", Emily interrupted. She did not understand why two people who are both kind and sweet to her are behaving in such a way to hurt each other ! What is the deal with these two she wondered.

"I feel bad for you, that you had to do everything on your own, you're clearly still bitter about it, but that doesn't mean you can go around passing your judgement upon people you know nothing about !" Lana snapped back at Dan.

Dan scoffed and tilted his head and glanced at Lana, "You will learn about life one day. Until that day..." He walked away and Lana clenched her fists. She watched his back slowly disappear in the crowd. Dan had yet again managed to get on her nerves and won !
