Obsessing Over Her

Gio: My dreams were filled with the beautiful women from the hospital. Nothing s****l but just holding her by the fireplace – the dream was almost serene. I don’t remember much after that, but the feeling of happiness washed over me. At this point there was no way I could get her out of my head, we only had one interaction and I was already craving her presence. A knock on the door pulled me out of my deep sleep. “Open up!” Mario called out. Shoving on some shorts, I headed to the door. I let him in and went to make some coffee. “Sorry did I wake you?” He asked. “Yes, but your fine. Better be something important though.” I yawned. “I found her.” “The doctor?” I questioned trying to keep the excitement in my voice down. “The one and only. Dr. Willow May.” “Willow.” I whispered to myself. A beautiful fitting name for her. “I have a whole file on her and thought you probably would want it as soon as possible.” “Thank you for this, do you want coffee or anything?” “Coffee would be great.” We sat in my apartment for the longest time just talking about mundane things like sports and the weather. I felt bad that I’ve been an ass to him the last couple days. Even though he is one of my enforcers he’s also my best friend. “What are you going to do about the men in black?” He asked finishing his coffee. “In all honesty I don’t know yet. I think I’ll call a meeting with all the heads to see if it’s an us or all of us problem.” Despite it feeling like weeks ago, Tony was just shot last night – everything happened last night. Even though I attempted to sleep after boxing I was only able to get four hours before Mario was knocking on my door. The last 24 hours were pure chaos but I at least I got to meet the woman of my dreams. “You don’t need to have all the answers yet, you know that right?” Mario said. “I know, I just can’t let the family down. How’s Helen doing?” “She’s fine, she’s catering to Tony’s ever want and need though. Did he really buy her that big ring on her hand?” He laughed. “Dude, Helen told him months ago she wanted that ring for graduating college from your parents.” I chuckled, “But shockingly he happened to ‘win it’ in a fight and gave it to her.” “Sure, he totally ‘won it’, no wonder he’s working so much that thing must have costed him a ton.” “Are you cool with him going after Helen?” I asked. “Honestly, I knew it was bound to happen. She was always around us growing up. I’m just happy its him and not some f*****g soldier or Lorenzo.” “I couldn’t agree more!” “I have to pick up a Christmas wreath for my mom, do you want to head to the Christmas Market with me?” Mario asked looking at his phone. “I’m down, I need to get my mind sorted out anyways.” We piled into my truck and headed down to the Christmas Market. Luckily the market was in our territory so I could check in with some of my runners while we were there. Parking on the side of the street, I took in the winter wonderland. White lights glistened across the night sky and the smell of cinnamon filled the air. “Ugg, I hate that smell!” Mario complained. “It was your idea to come here.” I reminded him. “Technically it was my mom’s idea, and you know how she gets if you say no to her.” He wasn’t wrong, Mario’s mom was like a second mother to me. Her word was rule and no one challenged her including Mario’s father. We were walking around the vendors when blonde hair captured my attention. Quickly turning around my eyes landed on a women wrapped up in a red jacket eating gingerbread cookies. Not just any woman but Willow. It was like I was stuck in time; all I could do was look at Willow up and down till I was dizzy. Mario was saying something in the distance, but I completely ignored him. All I could focus on was her. She looked up at the lights, a smile was spreading on her face, and I would give anything to be a reason for that smile. Twirling around under the lights, I could see she was in bliss - pure happiness. Before I could move toward her, I felt Mario pull me into a vendor booth. “What the f**k man!” I growled. “You were looking like a crazy man staring at her!” He replied. Thankfully he pulled me away the second Willow turned towards us, she glanced around as if she was looking for someone or something. She probably felt my eyes on her. “Thanks… I didn’t realize I was doing that.” I said to Mario. He gave me a pity look and said, “You should talk to her, if you’re that obsessed with a woman you met for 5 minutes maybe that means something, I don’t know anything about relationships but maybe there is something between you two.” “Maybe.” was all I said. We picked up a wreath and headed to my truck. I tried to find where Willow headed off to before we left. Spotting the blonde hair, I looked in her direction to see her shoulder tense and stress plague her body. I would give anything to take her stress away. Looking away I hopped into my truck and headed home. I didn’t see any of my runners on the street, so I needed to check in on them in the next coming days to make sure business was running smoothly. Mario left to bring his mother her precious Christmas wreath and I poured myself a strong drink. I pulled out the file Mario brought over and started to analyze it. The first page had all her general information on it. Name: Willow Ann May Born: 01 January 1995 in Denver, Colorado Mother: Jane Lisa May Father: Unknown Address: 2nd Avenue Apartment 4 She lives right next to the Christmas Market I thought to myself, the territory I reign over. The next couple pages were handwritten notes from Mario. I don’t know how he managed to find all the information, but he had to do some digging to get it. Turns out Willow moved to New York City 5 years ago for Medical School and just completed her intern year at Grace International Hospital. She is now in the residency program. Her shift is 6pm-6am alternating days every week and her life revolves around work. I studied ever detail on that page until the words became a blur. I must have dosed off on the couch, the morning sun drifted into the windows waking me up. Willow’s file was still in my arms, mostly crinkled and a bit wet from my drool. I slept really good for once. Despite me wanting to spend the day trying to run into Willow “by accident” I knew I had to get work done. I used my burner phone and reached out to the head of the Russian crime family. “What?!” Was the sound Igor made picking up the phone. “So pleasant in the morning Igor.” I said. “What do you want G?” “We need to meet; I think we might have an enemy at the docks.” “So, I’ve heard. Give me a time and place. I’ll be there.” He said hanging up the phone at the end of his sentence. Always nice talking with him I laughed to myself. At least we were not “enemies” right now and we have a common problem. I brainstormed who else to invite to this meeting and decided the best way to take care of the problem would be to find who the problem is working with. I called the boss of the Irish family too, it took some convincing but we are all suppose to meet in 2-days at neutral territory. Everything was coming together.
