Into Silverthorn Pack

"How could you marry me to a man you didn't know?" I questioned my father, almost crying. "Is this the way you talk to your father?” My father stared at me, his hypocritical smile for Gideon turned to impatience at the moment he saw me. "I wouldn't give you away if his father didn't agree to pay a large sum of my money. At least you can do some housework at home." "You gave me away for money?" I couldn't believe what I'd heard. "Why not?" My father uttered in a low voice, "My useless daughter finally gets some value. You should feel honored about this." Gideon was very annoyed. I could tell from his brows furrowing as he frowned. "We need to go back. NOW." Gideon ordered Larry. And then he noticed me and thought for a second, "Take her too." "No, I go nowhere. I will stay." I felt my brain go numb. At that moment, Gideon came close and whispered to me with restrained anger, "Are you going to keep living with your selfish and alcoholic father who would easily sell you just to buy drinks?" "Do I have a choice? Go with you and be your arranged wife? It's absurd!" "I want to cancel this ridiculous marriage more than you do." Gideon uppered his voice a little, "But anyways we need to find out what happened. I'll ask my father for an annulment of this marriage. Come or not, it's up to you." "Leave, Eleanor. Leave!" My father interrupted our conversation, "There's no room for you in our house." I looked at my father, and the resentment and pain inside me turned to disappointment. I turned to Gideon, said, "I will go." After hearing my words, he gave my father a disgusted look on his face and led me to his car.I caught Larry's embarrassed glance in the rearview mirror. So did Gideon. The car's interior was tense as we embarked on this unexpected journey. Gideon's voice cut through the silence, "Listen, I only saved you because I saw you being bullied. I didn't realize you were so ... gold-digging. I don't care how you get up to Corey's bed. But this time, you really mess with someone you shouldn't. Tell me, what kind of witchcraft did you use? How could my father pay you to be my bride? " His words started to disturb me. So I shot back, my voice tinged with frustration, "I don't even know you or your father, how would I know? Besides, I'm the one who was abandoned by my father." The conversation seemed to hit a dead end as Gideon's silence spoke louder than words. The atmosphere grew colder. Until then did I realize that my wet clothes still clung to me. I couldn't help but shivering due to the coldness. Fortunately, Larry noticed that. "Are you feeling cold, Eleanor? Let me turn off the air conditioning." "Larry, it's too stuffy back." "Alright, alright, boss." Larry gave me an apologetic smile. Very soon, it's iced again in the car, even colder than before. The journey continued, and I couldn't help but tremble, whether from the cold or from the overwhelming series of events. Betrayed and rejected by my mate, abandoned and sold by my father, now taken by my second chance mate, what kind of life was this? I looked outside of the window and couldn't help worrying about my future. For a while, we entered Silverthorn Pack territory, where I had never set foot on. Stepping into the opulent palace that was Gideon's home felt like entering a world from a dream. The air was scented with a faint hint of lavender, adding to the air of elegance. I followed Gideon through the hallway. What a hallway, adorned with great artwork and sculptures. Every corner seemed to hold a piece of history, a reminder of the pack's legacy. A maid took me to change my wet clothes into a lake blue silk dress. I'd never worn anything so gorgeous. When I was at home, I could only wear old clothes that Amelia got tired of. And when we came back to the living room, Alpha king Finley, Gideon and Larry had already waited for me in the room. Finley seemed a bit astonished yet happy to see me. "Welcome, Miss Eleanor." He stepped up and wanted to hug me. I avoided him almost without hesitation. No one used to hug me and... Kindness was often followed by hurt. That was one thing I have ever learned from past experiences. "My honor, King." I hope I managed to keep polite and decent. "Don't bother with this etiquette. Please take a seat and drink some hot ginger tea. It must be a long way for you to get here." Despite a moment of awkwardness, the Alpha King responded warmly to me. As we sat down and shared ginger tea, I silently observed everything around, with my instinct to guard up. Gideon avoided my gaze, not saying anything. He hated my presence, which was obvious. "You don't know how badly they are treating Eleanor. They actually put her in the water!" Larry chipped in with sympathy, "Gideon saved her from drowning." "So what I have been told is correct. Gideon, you had a fight with Corey." Finley stared at Gideon. He was not angry, but I could sense strong pressure from him. "I just did what the alpha should do." Instead of fearing, Gideon directly confronted his father with that usual stoney face, "What did the future bride mean?" "You heard it, future bride." Finley's response was straightforward. "Forgive me, father, but I refuse." Gideon's response was equally serious. "All the time, I have honored your teachings, father, and dedicated myself to becoming a competent alpha king. My life has been for my pack. I can't accept that in the future my Luna is such a pretentious and vanity omega." My own anger was stirred by Gideon's accusations. How could he say such mean things about someone he just met! I can't just let him judge me like this. After all, I was just a person he didn't bother to know at all. Courage from nowhere drove me to retort, "I don't accept an arrogant alpha either. I will only marry the one I like." Gideon seemed to be offended by my comment. He immediately fought back, "The guy you like. Corey? I just heard him gossip with others saying you are a gold-digger at the ball. I have seen a lot of omegas, but never seen such a hypocritical omega like you!" How dare he! Before I could say anything, Finley stopped this rude man severely. "That's not how I raised you, Gideon Caldwell." Even Larry showed a shocked face, like he had known this poker face since childhood, but it was the first time he had seen him so emotional with someone. The atmosphere was tense. "Anyway, I do not accept this arranged marriage." Gideon reclaimed assertively. Instead of answering him, Finley turned to me and attempted to comfort me. "Miss Eleanor, my apology. I hope my son hasn't offended you." Although I was definitely hurt by Gideon's words, I couldn't show it in the face of a pack alpha king who had been so kind to me since we met. Therefore, I just shook my head silently. "Originally, I wanted to bring my son to pay a visit tomorrow, but I didn't expect him to meet you today. Fate has its ways. It's late now. Please have a rest here first and we can discuss this further tomorrow." Finley's tone was very kind, but I thought anyone could hear the uncompromising in his words. The maid who led me to change came to me and motioned that she would take me to the bedroom to sleep. Left alone with my thoughts, I didn't immediately go back to sleep. After this whole day's drama, I needed time to relax my mind.I wandered in the garden after she was gone. Fresh air always calmed and comforted me. Suddenly, I heard two men quarreling. "I don't understand why you want me to marry such a... You didn't even tell me in advance." It was Gideon and Finley! Worried about being discovered by them, I hurriedly hid in the corner and hid my body carefully, not even missing the shadow. "Watch your language," Finley sounded a bit sullen. "Will you say yes if I tell you in advance?" "Of course not. You taught me to put the future of the pack in the first place, but now you're being so hasty on such an important matter." And then Gideon was silent for a while, as if he thought of something, "Is she that girl?" What girl? Finley just said, "I order you in the name of your father, Alpha King, to marry her." Me?! Hearing them talking about me, my heart beat suddenly and I panicked and almost knocked off the glazed vase on the window. "Who's there!"
