The future Luna's jealousy

Chapter 5

(Penance P.O.V.)

I woke up the next day with terrible gut wrenching hunger pains and so thirsty that I didn't have enough moisture in my mouth to swallow properly. Trying to swallow hurt, so I did my best to avoid it till I could get something to drink. I was up before the morning bell so I rushed off to the kitchens before the warriors would get there. I heard the morning bell as I was about to walk through the kitchen door.

I rushed to the faucet and stuck my head under it quickly as I turned on the cold water. Drinking as much as I could without making myself sick. With a stomach full of water even the hunger pains were more bearable. I sighed in relief and began preparing to start cooking breakfast. So it looks like I showed up before everyone to get an early start on making food.

A moment later Jasmine rushes through the front door of the kitchen. She looks as though she just rolled out of bed and ran here. I'm surprised to see her here this early, she has always had a hard time waking up in the morning. She rushes towards me and suddenly hugs me tightly. The hug only lasts a moment and then she asks while starting to help me with food.

"What happened yesterday? You never showed up for dinner and everyone is saying that the Luna punished you yesterday for disobeying her." As she finishes the first guards and slaves start showing up. So I quietly tell her everything that happened yesterday while we cook, except what I heard the Alpha and Beta talking about because their were to many ears around us to tell her about that.

Plus I still wasn't sure how to tell her I've been sold and will have to make a run for it before I'm given to my new master. As we talked and cooked the smell of food made my stomach cramp horribly with hunger. Lucky for me I have dealt with hunger pains before, so I think I kept most the pain out of my face while I talked to Jasmine. I didn't want to worry her and we would be eating here soon.

Jasmine knowing how hungry I was agreed to not volunteer us for dish duty today. Someone else could do that, we helped clean up the kitchen and went to wait in the breakfast line outside. It wasn't to long and Jasmine did her best to distract me while we waited for our turn to get food. I was never fond of the gruel they fed us for breakfast but it sounded delicious right about now. Anything to help ease this hunger would be heavenly.

I had just grabbed by bowl of food and cup of water when suddenly I am grabbed and thrown to the ground from behind. To my dismay my food and water flies out of my hands. As I slam into the ground I am suddenly kicked in the side with great force. Im pretty sure I heard a rib crack but I can't be sure. I immediately curl into a ball to protect my aching stomach and ribs.

I look up with tears in my eyes to see Sarah the Beta's daughter and future Luna of this pack. She sneers down at me before she starts kicking me again with renewed force. "I heard you were flirting naked with my boyfriend yesterday slut, like he would want a scrawny, ugly little nothing like you when he has me." Sarah barks at me still kicking me. Why me? I wouldn't touch her boyfriend if I was on fire and he was the water that could save me. A friend of hers must of seen Zander touching me yesterday and said I wanted it.

I wanted to protest but breathing was getting harder and my vision was getting darker around the edges. Lack of food plus the beating was taking it's toll on me. I didn't know how much longer I could stay conscious. I absently wondered if the guards would just let her beat me to death. It broke my heart to hear Jasmine crying somewhere around me but I couldn't see her curled up on a ball like I was. Was this truly the end to my horrible life?

Then out of nowhere I hear Alpha Alexander use his Alpha voice to yell "Sarah stop!" Sarah froze mid kick her whole body shaking from the power behind the command. I glanced up and in my fuzzy vision saw the Alpha a little ways behind Sarah shaking with anger. His eyes were furious and his cold voice was filled with that same fury when he said "I thought I told you not to mark up this particular slave Sarah. I do believe my exact words were that not a single hair on her head was to be harmed from now on. That if she was to be punished you would have to find ways to do it that didn't leave marks."

Sarah visibly paled in fear and even through my pain it was nice to see her be the one scared for once. "Yes Alpha you did, but she made advances on Zander yesterday knowing he is my boyfriend. I had to teach her a lesson so she would always remember he is mine." Sarah's voice was trembling in fear. I honestly don't think she believed that she would get into trouble for beating me despite what the Alpha had told her. She turned to look pleadingly at the Alpha but it didn't seem to help.

"I don't care why you did it, I gave you a direct order and I expect to be obeyed." He said coldly "just because you are dating my son and will be the future Luna does not give you leeway to disobey your Alpha." He looked at me as I struggled to get air into my lungs, every breath was met with searing pain. He gave Sarah a hard look then said "You must be punished for this insolence, 20 lashes to be given by your father because he should of taught you better obedience than this."

Sarah looked like she wanted to argue but one look into the Alpha's cold dark eyes changed her mind. "As you say Alpha I apologize for disobeying your orders, I won't ever do it again."

The Alpha acknowledged her apology by nodding at her and then said, "Now go to my office and wait for me there. I shall notify your father that he should meet us there."

"Yes Alpha," replied Sarah as she started walking towards the pack house. As she walked past the Alpha she glared back at me Pure hatred in her eyes. I knew that she blamed her punishment by the Alpha on me. I realized in that moment no matter Alpha Alexander's orders she would find a way to hurt me for this.

Alpha Alexander turned towards a young guard standing near by. He was darkly tanned with light brown hair and eyes. Obviously new to the job as he stood extra straight when the Alpha's eyes fell on him. "Take this woman to the healers and make sure she eats. No point in wasting a healing on her if she starves." Then he walked away before the young man even picked me up. As the guard carried me away I saw Jasmine's worried tear stained face and mouthed to her "I'll be fine." I forced a smile past the pain to hopefully ease her worry but I don't think it worked. I wished I could do more to comfort her but It was taking all my strength to just stay conscious past the pain.
