Without wasting a second, Kabir stepped into Ananya's path, blocking her way. His heart thudded violently against his chest.
"This notebook... this is your handwriting, isn't it?" he asked hurriedly, his voice laced with urgency. "Are you the one leaving those letters for me every evening?"
Ananya looked surprised at first, then broke into a soft laugh. She extended the notebook toward him. "This? These are just instructions from Mrs. Sharma that she gave me this morning. I've only been working here as a part-time intern for a week."
Kabir examined the notebook closely. The handwriting bore a passing resemblance, but upon closer inspection, the script in the letters was far more delicate, crafted with a distinct grace and depth.
"Oh... I'm sorry," Kabir murmured, embarrassment flushing his cheeks. "I just thought..."
"It's alright," Ananya smiled warmly. "Sounds like someone is making quite a mysterious entry into your life. But if you really want to find her, there might be a way."
A fresh spark of hope flickered in Kabir's eyes. "What way?"
"The library's CCTV cameras," Ananya pointed toward a camera mounted in the corner. "Mrs. Sharma leaves for the day at six o'clock. If you request her, she might let you check yesterday evening's footage."
It felt as though a vital clue had just been handed to him. Expressing his gratitude to Ananya, Kabir walked straight to the librarian’s office. After much persuasion and repeated requests, Mrs. Sharma finally agreed to let him review the recording.
Kabir sat before the monitor, his gaze fixed on the screen as he played the footage timestamped from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM the previous day.
Various visitors moved across the frame, but Kabir's eyes remained glued to his favorite table by the window. At exactly 4:45 PM, a shadowy figure approached the bookshelf. She wore a yellow kurti, though her face remained obscured by the deep shadows cast by the tall wooden shelves. She discreetly slipped the pink note into The Shadow of the Wind and exited quickly.
Kabir paused the frame.
While her face was blurred, a distinct detail caught his attention: around her wrist rested an intricate silver bracelet adorned with a tiny star charm.
He stared intently at the frozen image. He still didn't have a face, but he now had a vital clue—a silver star bracelet.
S... you can't hide for much longer now, Kabir thought to himself.
