The next evening, Kabir sat in the library pretending to study, but his gaze remained glued to the wrists of every girl who walked through the doors. His heart hammered in his chest with every passing minute as he searched for the gleam of that silver star bracelet.
Deciding a wider view might help, he stepped outside and took a seat at the small tea stall right opposite the library entrance. From there, he could watch everyone approaching the main gate.
The clock struck 4:30 PM.
Suddenly, a young woman paused at the entrance. She wore a simple yellow and white suit. Kabir’s eyes darted instantly to her right wrist—and his breath hitched. Glinting in the soft sunlight was the exact silver bracelet adorned with a star.
She moved quickly into the library. Without making a sound, Kabir followed her inside.
The girl walked straight toward the familiar aisle housing The Shadow of the Wind. She glanced around, pulled a pink envelope from her bag, and was just about to slip it between the pages when Kabir stepped forward and gently caught her wrist.
"Caught you... S," Kabir said, his voice quiet yet heavy with intensity.
She turned sharply, pure panic and fear flashing in her eyes. She possessed an innocent charm, with long flowing hair and a strange, quiet stillness about her face.
"Who... who are you? Let go of my hand!" she stammered, visibly shaken.
Kabir gestured toward the pink envelope in her hand. "I’m the person you’ve been writing these letters to every day. Kabir. Don’t try to hide anymore—I’ve finally found you."
The girl stared at him, a flicker of deep confusion crossing her features. She took a slow, heavy breath and lowered her gaze. "You have it all wrong... I’m not S."
Kabir pointed directly to the star charm dangling from her wrist. "That bracelet... and that pink envelope? You're hiding something."
Tears welled up in her eyes. "My name is Saman. I am the one who leaves these letters here... but I am not the one who writes them. I’m only delivering them on behalf of someone else."
Kabir froze, his mind running blank. "On behalf of someone else? Then who is she?"
Saman looked at him intently, her voice laced with a bittersweet sorrow. "She... is my elder sister. Her name is Simran. And she can never come to this library herself
