Meet Jake/Forty Thousand dollars

'It's going to take a lot more than just being sorry,' Agnes said, suddenly stepping away from Jude's arm. Jude's face dropped. For a moment, he thought he had her. He thought he had secured a spot for himself in her consciousness when he held her in his arms to allow her to sob into his chest, but just like that, she was back to being defensive again. 'What do you want me to do for you?' Jude asked: 'Name it, name anything you want, I'll do it right away, I promise' he added. 'Your car, you need a new car. I can have one sent to you before the end of the week. I swear. You should just give me a trial to convince you that I have your best interest in mind,' Jude ranted. Agnes giggled and started to shake her head in disappointment. 'You think it's that easy?' she asked him. 'You think this is business as usual, where you get to bid for a piece of whatever it is that your interest is, right, Mr Jude? CEO' Agnes asked, sniffing back the tears that rolled down her cheeks. 'It's not like that, that's not what I mean at all' Jude started to argue. 'I just want to be there for my son, and, and you too. I want to be there for both of you, I want to be in your lives,' Jude pleaded. Agnes let out a burst of loud, sarcastic laughter. 'You want to be there for your son, you want to be there for me' she mimicked him in a ridiculous tone. 'Tell me, what made you change your mind?' She asked him. 'Mmm? as far as I can remember, you were hell-bent on not setting eyes on us again, remember? All of a sudden, you are back, begging to be let into the lives of the very people you treated like garbage. How is that even possible? How is that supposed to work?' she continued to ask. Their attention was drawn toward Jude's son. He started to cry for attention, Agnes had been away from him for too long, and he could also hear the sound of his parents' voices blaring at each other in different moods. Agnes hurried towards her son, while Jude took strides behind her, hoping to set his eyes on his son for the first official time. 'The nerve of you to walk into my house as if you owned the place,' Agnes said sternly to Jude. The only reason she was currently speaking to Jude with a calm tone was that she had their son in her hands, and he had honestly had enough of their yelling. That was why he was crying in the first place. Apart from that, Agnes wished she could toss Jude out of her sight. 'Can I hold him?' Jude asked her. He was looking at the boy closely for the first time ever, and at this point, whatever Agnes was saying to Jude was not important, he wanted so badly to see his son, and he had succeeded. Concerning wanting to hold the infant boy, Agnes was reluctant, of course, but Jude's parental instinct was so intense at the moment, that she could not ignore it. After a couple of seconds of staring Jude down angrily, she handed the boy over to him. Even Jude could not believe it. His eyes shone in disbelief and excitement while he took the child from its mom, looking at him with the softest demeanor that Jude thought he had ever been in his life. 'Does he have a name yet?' He asked: 'Yes, his name is Jake' Agnes replied. 'Jake? Why did you name him even? I ought to be the one doing the naming here,' Jude told her jokingly. 'You ought to f**k off, that's what' Agnes said angrily, taking the baby Jake back from his dad. 'What? I was joking' Jude replied, letting go of the boy, who had already started to cry again because of his mother's sudden burst of negative energy. 'Your guts are disgusting. The fact that you stalked me at my house, and are also making silly jokes as to who should name my son. The one you rejected, it's time for you to leave, for real' Agnes said, taking the baby back to his cradle to lay him down. 'Fine' Jude replied. 'Thanks for allowing me to touch him at least. I was not expecting that you would do that,' he said. 'You are welcome, and goodbye' Agnes replied, holding open the door of her apartment to see Jude out. A wary Jude heaved a sigh of despair and started to head out. 'Can I have your number at least?' he asked just before he stepped out. 'What?' Agnes asked, starting to laugh at Jude's nerves. 'Of course not, you can't' she added. 'Agnes quit being so difficult. You both need me at this time of your lives, you know it. Here, have some money' Jude said, handing out a huge wad of hundred dollar notes to Agnes. 'What do you take me for?' Agnes asked him angrily, 'You think I can't take care of my child without help?' she added. 'Our child Agnes, our son' Jude said, cajoling her to accept the money. 'Don't deny my boy a comfortable life all because of your selfish and stubborn stand,' he said to her, his tone this time sounded more affirmative than earlier on when he was begging to be let in to see Jake. Agnes snatched the money and showed him out of her house, slamming the door behind him as soon as he stepped out. 'I didn't get your number' Jude yelled from outside, but Agnes had gone back to taking care of Jake, she was done with Jude and his persistence. 'Fine, obviously you want me to return for another visit. I'd be glad to oblige your wish,' Jude said while he walked along that difficult path toward his car, parked as far away from Agnes' house as he could. 'Forty thousand f*****g dollars, just like that?' Agnes muttered in surprise when she counted the money Jude gave to her.
