The Rogue Queen Rises

700 Words
The first thing I felt was silence. Not the kind that comforts — the kind that screams. The forest was still when I opened my eyes, the ground beneath me slick with dew and blood. My blood. I should have been dead. But instead, I was alive. Barely. The moon had shifted from crimson to silver, hanging high above the black trees like a quiet witness. I tried to move, but pain shot through my veins like liquid fire. My skin glowed faintly, the same violet light I’d seen before I passed out. “What… what’s happening to me?” I rasped. My wolf stirred weakly inside me, her voice trembling. We’re changing, Nora. She marked us. “Who?” The Moon Goddess. The words made my heart skip. No one spoke of the Moon Goddess anymore — not seriously. She was a myth, a story told to pups. But the power humming under my skin was real. Too real. --- I stumbled to my feet, my once-beautiful gown torn and stained. The forest air was cold, biting at my skin, but I barely felt it. Somewhere far away, I could hear the distant howls of the pack celebrating. Celebrating my rejection. I clenched my fists. “You’ll regret this, Jason Blackwood.” The sound of my voice startled even me — it didn’t sound weak or broken. It sounded… dangerous. That’s when I heard it. A growl. Low. Close. Three wolves stepped out from the shadows — rogues. Their eyes glowed gold in the moonlight, teeth bared. Rogues were the wild ones, the ones cast out for crimes, madness, or rebellion. They killed without mercy. I braced myself. “If you’re going to kill me, do it fast.” The largest one shifted — a tall man with scars across his chest and eyes like storm clouds. “Kill you?” he said, his voice rough. “You’re glowing like a goddess, sweetheart. No one’s killing you tonight.” I frowned, taking a step back. “Who are you?” He smirked. “Name’s Kael. Leader of the Rogue Haven. And you just fell into my territory.” I didn’t know it then, but that moment would change everything. --- Kael’s pack was nothing like Blackwood. They lived deep in the mountains, hidden from the world — exiles, misfits, wolves who had lost everything but still refused to bow. They didn’t treat me like a traitor or a broken Luna. They treated me like one of them. At first, I hated it — the noise, the wildness, the lack of rules. But then I saw something I hadn’t seen in years. Freedom. Days turned into weeks. My wounds healed faster than they should have. My strength grew. And the power inside me — the strange, glowing pulse — began to answer my will. When Kael watched me spar one night, his expression shifted from curiosity to respect. “You’re not just some abandoned Luna,” he said. “You’re something else.” I looked at him, the moonlight reflecting off my eyes. “I’m the mistake my Alpha should never have made.” He grinned. “Then make him pay for it.” And I would. --- That night, under the pale moon, I shifted for the first time since the rejection. My wolf was different — bigger, faster, her fur streaked with silver and violet. Power surged through me, and the earth trembled. The rogues bowed. Kael looked up at me, awe flickering in his gaze. “Looks like the Moon chose her new queen.” The title struck something deep inside me — fear, pride, rage. But it felt right. I howled to the sky, and the rogues howled with me. For the first time in my life, I didn’t belong to anyone. Not to Jason. Not to the pack. Only to myself. That night, the legend began — the tale of the Luna he left behind, who rose from ruin and built an army from the ashes of her heartbreak. And as the moon bathe d me in silver light, I made my vow: > I will return. Not as his Luna. But as his reckoning.
