Within the domed meeting chambers of the Council of Four, Koragi stood silently next to Tebanis while Kyr approached the semicircle platform upon which the Council sat in tall cushioned chairs. Between them rested a wide marble table with a single box on its surface. The Council of Four consisted of four Chairs—Trade, Religion, Finance, and Foreign Affairs—as well as a fifth seat, the Viscount, which acted as their mediator and leader. Mayik Etio had held the elected position of Viscount for fifteen years, following his impressive military career. Now, as Kyr offered them a friendly greeting and introduced his guests, the five men in raised seats gazed down at Koragi and Tebanis skeptically.
