Toport remained in his natural form as he and Koragi joined the army north out of the ravine the next day. The sky had cleared, luring birds and other wildlife back out into the open. The passage of thousands of armored men did not frighten them away again, as if the terror of Ariana’s forces had dulled them to the mundane peril of human presence. When a lark landed on Toport’s back and roosted there for an entire hour, Koragi wondered if her presence affected them somehow. A dragon like Toport surely should have frightened the lesser creatures of the hills.
