Chapter 62

2478 Words

The doorbell wakes me up. Still sleepy, I look around, panicking. Austin is standing next to the bed, bare-chested, with a towel wrapped around his waist.   He looks at me quizzically. I look at the clock on my phone. This early, it can only be delivery. I hope it has nothing to do with the threat letters!   Austin seems to be thinking the same thing. He frowns, worried. “Let me put some pants on, and I’ll go get the door.”   “Leave it, I’ll go. I’ll look through the peephole to make sure it’s not a psycho.”   Austin hesitates and finally shrugs his shoulders. “Fine. I’ll be in the bathroom. I have to hurry to get to the airport… But I’ll be listening.”   I stand up to get my robe and hiss a little because of the pain. Wow, he said I wouldn’t be able to walk and he made it true.
