I open my eyes and sits up in my bed. Jake… His injury!
“You had a nightmare, sweetheart. Everything is okay.” Austin pushes a strand of hair away from my forehead. He smiles at me affectionately.
Austin’s presence and the first rays of light bring me back to reality. Jake isn’t dead… well not yet at least.
“Austin, have you heard from the hospital?”
Austin slowly nods his head. “Yes. The surgery was longer than expected, and they finished well into the night. But it was a success. Everything is fine.”
