Jim held Rory close, his arms wrapped around her shaking form as they watched the news coverage with growing horror. The reporter's voice was a droning buzz in his ears, the words blurring together into a meaningless jumble of fear and speculation. "We have a breaking development in the hostage situation at Cedar-Sinai Hospital," the reporter said, her face grim and her voice tight with tension. "Moments ago, one of the gunmen was seen jumping from a high window on the pediatric floor, landing on a police car below. He was pronounced dead at the scene." Rory let out a choked sob, her hand flying to her mouth. "Oh God," she whispered, her eyes wide and glassy with tears. "Why would he do that, Jim? Why would he kill himself?" Jim shook his head, his own mind reeling with the implications
