Looking at the tablet, he smiled and breathed a heavy sigh of air, the tension easing from his facial expression. "Good choice, Thomas. Let's get to work, people. The surgery starts now," he proclaimed with a new mettle in his voice.
The room became full of medical people rushing everywhere, shoving bottles in my face, and then something pushed my fire bed with such force that I didn't even see anything just for a brief moment.
I woke up feeling pains all over my body
“Are you feeling ok Mr Thomas,” Davis muttered.
I signed in pain.“Yeah, I'm good, but the pain is excruciating.”
“Never been to surgery.”Davis gazed at me with curiosity.
“Nah, this is my first time,” I muttered
“Well, the pain should stop when I activate grain,” Davis said.
Davis stepped out to the vacant slab Almost imperceptibly turning itself into a holographic computer suspended in midair. An interface flashed on, some of the light hitting his face with playful colours.
Davis raised his hand, fingers expertly snapping. He powered on the Grain, and the hologram came to life. Data sprang up in streams like digital waterfalls, turning into charts that began to spin into existence as interactive icons floated and throbbed softly in invitation for the touch of his fingertip.
The air around him buzzed with potential, every potential of the hologram waiting, ready to transform at his command.
I felt a sudden twitch in my neck as I swayed my hand to grab hold of the pain behind my neck.
“What the hell Davis, the pain is too much,” I muttered.
The eyes of Davis widened as he looked at me. His face split into a wide smile and his whole expression became bright.
“So, you gay now? And what is that creepy-ass grin all about?.” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“You haven't realized, have you?.” Davis muttered in a disbelieving voice.
My eyes widened as my eyes swayed looking at my arm touching my neck.
“Wait a minute I couldn't move my arms before, I can now, damn this tech is crazy,” I said in disbelief.
With that, I shifted my body slowly in time with the stiff cracks of my bones readjusting. Once it stopped cracking I began to stand on my feet, walking a few steps at a time to establish my equilibrium.
“You got a treadmill?” I said with a smile.
“Ready for a trail, I see,” David muttered
I ran with it for 200 miles, yet never got that excited feeling.
“s**t, that is like way more than I would do on a regular day,” I panted.
Davis grinned at him and said, "I told you Grain could do anything.”Now remember you are now a property of Eronx Electronics, no one must know. Do you understand?”
“Yeah, yeah I understand what you're saying.” I shrugged.
“I've never really been in support of machines and A.I. generally but this is on a whole new level, as long as I deal with those bastards,” I said to myself lost in thoughts.
I felt a cold touch on my shoulder, “Remember no one can know about this, to everyone you're still quadriplegic. Best to keep it that way whilst I monitor you and my chip's progress.” Davis said with a pale face.
“I know I already signed the contract chill. So can I go home now?” I muttered.
“Sure, you can,” Davis said.
“Congrats Mr Thomas,” Luke muttered, staring at the road.
“Thank you,” I said, sinking my back into the car seat as city buildings swiftly passed by.
The van rumbled to a halt, its engine humming softly in the midnight's stillness. The side door slid open with a metallic clink, and two attendants stepped out, their movements swift and subtle. They gently lifted me from the cushioned seat, their hands firm yet careful. The cool morning air brushed against my skin as they maneuvered me into the waiting wheelchair, its metal frame cold and solid beneath me. The familiar squeak of the wheels announced our progress as we moved towards the front door of my house.
“Thanks guys.” I said as the van disappeared into the dark street.
I toggled my control as my wheelchair moved slowly into the house observing everything.” Good mum's not here.” I said as I quickly stood up to lock the door and windows.
I headed straight to the kitchen” Do you need anything Mr Thomas?.” The A.I. said
“ Yes I need you to shut the hell up.” I replied with a predatory grin.
I took out the groceries from the fridge as I set the on the cooker while nodding my head as I listened to my favorite album.
“ Damn, that was a nice meal.” I said, giving out a huge burp.
The doorbell rang, filling the atmosphere of the room.” Damn,I was getting to the good part. Who's there?.” I shouted out loud.
“It's Detective Nelly, Mr Thomas.” The voice behind the door shouted out.
I swiftly jumped on my wheelchair, posing my body to what it used to be.” I'll be right there.” I replied with a loud voice.
“Open.” I muttered.
The door opens with a silent hiss that fills the air,”how l are you doing Mr Thomas?.” Detective Nelly said.
“I'm good, hope you're well?.” I muttered moving towards the parlor slowly.
“Yeah I'm good, just came to check on you.” Detective Nelly said, looking at the dirty dishes in the sink.
“ Yeah thanks for coming,I'm doing well as you can see.” I said. “ She's suspecting me,I can see it in her eyes after she looks at the dishes,it sure looks like it was a handmade dish and she knows my mum ain't around. Damn I can't let someone snooping around till they find out what's going on.” I said to myself.
“So! Yeah I came to drop the footage of what happened that night.” She said coming closer, gazing at me seductively. She leans forward closely to my face.”I'll leave it on the table,Mr Thomas.” She said,
My heart rate increased as she took her steps slowly towards the table.
“I am detecting a rush of blood towards your lower region Mr Thomas.” The A.I. said.
“Shutup.” I said using my head to hit the chair.
She gave a slight smile as she walked to the parlor sinking her back into the seat.
“So detective any leads in the investigation?.” I muttered.
“Yeah we're still working on it.”she said as her detective instincts went on high alert.
“Why do I feel you're keeping something away from me.” I said with my face falling to my shoulder.
“look, Thomas is a very fragile case you know I can't just give you leaks on it.” She said with signs of pity laying on her face.
“But detective!, you know I deserve to know right!.” I said.
“Fine, but I'm not supposed to leak this info out so be sure to be quiet. You didn't hear this from me.” Detective Nelly muttered.
Detective Nelly signed and rubbed her temples. She leaned closely. Whatever she said next was barely a whisper, lost in the shadows of the dimly lit room.
My face paled.” You sure about this?.”
Detective Nelly nodded slowly, glancing around the house as if it had ears.” So I'll be taking my leave now,do take care of your self and try not to kill yourself.”
With no other words, Detective Nelly stood up and left, the door closing with a soft click behind her.
I sank into my wheelchair, the weight of Detective Nelly words pressing on me. What I had just learned changes everything.
I stood up walking swiftly towards the back door, carrying the wheelchair with me.
‘If what the detective said is accurate then that bastard should be there right now’. I said to myself driving off into the empty dark street.
