CHAPTER 25. I stumbled backward, caught off guard by Jane's words.gasps escaped my lips, and I stared in Jane's direction, unable to comprehend how she could say something so sensitive so casually. My eyes welled up with tears, threatening to spill over. I clenched my fists tightly, feeling the surge of adrenaline coursing through my body. In a hoarse voice, I managed to ask, "What do you mean she's dead?" Jane swallowed hard, her gaze filled with sadness. "Tay, Avery is gone." In that moment, the world around me seemed to crumble. It wasn't just that Avery was my client and I couldn't protect her, but the fact that they had burned her remains. Didn't Jane mention that she was found in an exploded car? Anger burned within my soul, but I held myself back, quickly reaching for the door.
