“You shouldn’t have done that,” Rafael said, his voice low and dangerous, the words curling like smoke in the air. Rose froze as he stepped closer. In one rough motion, he slammed her against the wall. Pain shot up her spine, and she gasped, trembling. He reached up and pulled the blood-slick shard from his chest, his eyes locked on hers the entire time. The sound of metal sliding against flesh made her stomach twist. Blood ran down his chest, warm, splattering against her skin.
