Chapter Five

1389 Words
Laken's POV After cleaning up and changing into a pair of sweatpants and a tank top, I felt better. Aunt Summer suggested I stay the night, having a movie night with popcorn and milkshakes. Laramie also joined us, so we enjoyed watching movies late into the night. After the movies, Laramie crashed on the couch with Wren, and I went and lay down in the guest room. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out in the comfortable bed. But my sleep was anything but comfortable. The dream came back of a little girl playing in the garden. That little girl was me, and I was not alone. A boy was running with me, trying to keep me out of trouble. There was a grand house in front of the garden, with people in grand clothing, like there was an event. We ran up to the patio, and a beautiful woman with long blonde hair opened her arms, and I jumped into them, with her picking me up, kissing my cheek. The woman looked so much like me, including the blue eyes. A man came up to us, placing his arm around her waist, kissing her, and then kissing my cheek. He looked so much like Laramie but had red hair. There was so much love and laughter between the two of them, and I could tell they loved each other very much. Then evening covered the grounds, and Laramie and I were in our room, getting ready for bed. An older lady was dressing us in our nightgowns as the night was winding down. Laramie and I were in bed when there was an alarm. The house was on fire. A man came rushing into our room and snatched us out of bed. The man had blonde hair and a scar down the side of his face. He took us outside, but not to our parents. He handed us over to a blonde woman with a French accent and handed him an envelope. They shoved us into the back of a van, and that was the end of the dream. I woke up and sat up, looking around the room. I forgot I was in my uncle’s suite, in the guest room. Instead of falling back to sleep, I got up and headed to the kitchen. With nights like this, I would make some chamomile tea to help me fall back to sleep. I know Summer usually keeps some in the pantry, so I went in there to get a couple of tea bags. When I came out, Summer was walking out of the hallway. “Couldn’t sleep?” She asked, walking over to the cabinet, pulling out a couple of mugs for us. “Can I talk to you, Aunt Summer?” I asked her as she placed the two mugs with water in the microwave. She turned to me and smiled. “You know you can tell me anything,” she said to me, reaching over and squeezing my hand. I looked over at Laramie, making sure she was still asleep. “We can talk on the balcony so we don’t wake the girls up.” Once the microwave was done, and the water was hot, we set the tea bags in the water to seep and walked out onto the balcony with our mugs. We sat down, and Summer turned to me, ready to listen. “What is bothering you?” she asked, curious about what was bothering me. “I had the same dream, like it was real, for a while now,” I told her. “It is like it is a memory.” “What is the memory you keep having?” Summer asked me, sitting back in her chair. “I am running in a garden, with a young boy who is several years older than me,” I explained to her. “Then, I would run to my parents, who look so much like Laramie and me, except mom has blonde hair, and looks like me, and dad looked like Laramie, but with red hair. Then, there was a fire, and a man with blonde hair and a scar that ran on the side of his face kidnapped Laramie and me. He handed us over to a woman with blonde hair, with a French accent. She paid him, and we were shoved into the back of a van. Then, the dream ended there.” Summer sat there, thinking about what I told her. She leaned forward and took my hand. “Laken, you might remember something that happened when you were young, when you and Laramie were taken,” she gently explained. “I can ask around, and find out about a fire fifteen years ago, and the two of you being taken.” “I would greatly appreciate it, Summer,” I said, smiling at her. “Another thing lately I’ve felt like I am being watched whenever I am out in the woods. Every time this person is near, my creature, Reagan, goes crazy.” “Reagan?” Summer asked me. “Who is she?” “My creature,” I told her. “But I don’t know what she is because she won’t tell me, nor will she allow me to shift. She told me I would find my true identity when I found my fated mate. So, could I be a werewolf?” “When did she appear?” Summer was curious about Reagan. “Three months before our birthday last year. Could that have been my true birthday?” I asked, more curious about myself. “It could be,” she answered. “But these dreams you keep on having are showing you about your past. You could be from royalty, but the only true royalty is---” She stopped and looked at me wide-eyed. “It can’t be,” she whispered, as if she had just figured something out. Summer reached over and took my hand. “Laken, does anyone know about these dreams?” “No, you are the first,” I answered her, curious about what she knows. “Give me a few days, and do some research,” she told me. “Hopefully, I can find some answers for you.” “All my life, all I wanted was answers,” I told her. “I have always been curious about who I am, where I came from, who my birth parents are, and if they are still alive. My entire life has been like this, and it seemed like no one had the answers.” “Laken, you are almost eighteen,” Summer said to me. “Soon, you can go out and find the answers you need.” “Honestly, I think I will be eighteen next month,” I told her. “That is when Reagan showed up.” “What about Laramie?” “I don’t know if she has gotten anything yet,” I answered her. “But she has been asking a lot of questions about our past.” “Hopefully soon, the both of you will have the answers you deserve,” Summer assured me, reaching over to hug me. “Am I interrupting?” We heard behind us. I looked over and Laramie was standing in the doorway with a blanket wrapped around her. “What have you heard?” I asked my sister. “Everything,” she answered, walking out onto the balcony. She sat down next to me, looking over at me. “Why didn’t you tell me about our past?” “Because I am not sure if these dreams are actually true,” I explained to her, hoping I didn’t hurt her feelings. “Well, since we are being honest, I also received a creature,” she informed me. She was silent for a minute, then she looked up at me. “Laken, what are we?” she asked, fear showing on her face. “Will we have to leave because we might be too dangerous for everyone?” Summer reached over and hugged my little sister. “No, the two of you will never have to leave,” she assured Laramie. “This is your home, and both of you will always be welcome.”
