Chapter Two

1664 Words
Now, since you know how my life is here in the pack, I will tell you who I am. My name is Laken Jade Wittelsbach. My sister, Laramie, and I are the daughters of Leofric and Piper Wittelsbach, the king and queen of the demons. When we were little, mom rescued us from a prison, and she and dad ended up adopting us, loving us with all their hearts, even when they had children of their own. Over the years, mom and dad never showed favoritism among all of us kids, making time out of their busy schedules to spend time with all of us. Dad would leave his office early to come to all our games, and mom would sit by our sides when we were sick. Laramie and I got in trouble in our early teens, taking dad’s credit card, and going on a shopping spree. Since then, if I wanted something, I would get a job and make my own money. But when I was five, we discovered I had powers. During a war with another Alpha, I saved mom’s life and watched as she killed the Alpha who invaded the pack. Since then, she would have the witch, Sienna, work with me, uncover any other powers I may have. We have discovered not only I have the force field but also teleportation, levitation, and telepathy. Since I have these powers, I could not use them against the members of the pack, including my bullies. For the last few years, I have been working at Alfredo’s, the pizzeria in the pack. Alfred and Sofia took me in as one of their own and protected me when I was there. Every day after school, I would go to the restaurant and work until closing, dealing with the never-ending bullying from the kids at school. Sofia would stand by my side, defending me, and actually banning kids from the pizzeria. After talking with Laramie, I dried my long, red, straight hair, hoping to get it dried enough to pull back into a ponytail. My creature, Reagan, which I don’t know what it is, was restless, wanting me to go to the waterfall. I sighed, and pulled my hair back into a ponytail, put some leggings and a tank top on, and left the house to the waterfall. Instead of walking, I teleported myself to the waterfall, into the cave that Aunt Summer discovered years ago. The energy from the cave recharged me, even though I had used little of my powers. I sat down on the edge of the water, sticking my feet into the water. As I sat there, I thought about what my life had been like before coming here. There would be dreams of me playing with a handsome young boy in a garden. He would hold my hand as we ran down the path, laughing and just being young. In the background stood a magnificent house, something you would find in a storybook. But then, there would be nightmares of flames, with Laramie next to me. Someone scooped us up, saving us from the flames, but handing us over to a blonde woman with a French accent. Who was this woman, and what answers does she hold about our past? I heard a noise behind me, and I turned to look. It was mom walking in with Laramie. Did they come to check up on me? “Laken, I heard about what happened at the pizzeria,” mom said, sitting next to me, putting her arm around my shoulders. “Are you okay?” “Yes, mom, I am fine,” I answered her. With mom being close by, she always calmed me down. “We can talk to your uncle,” mom suggested. “And do what?” I asked her angrily. “Make our lives even worse? They will not stop bullying us until we leave the pack! I cannot wait until I turn eighteen, and then I am leaving all of it behind me. The taunts, the abuse, everything!” “Are you willing to leave your family behind?” Mom asked me sadly. I looked over at her, and she was looking at me with sad eyes. I loved my family very much, even my aunts and uncles, but I can’t live here anymore. “I can always come back and visit,” I told her. “I just can’t live here anymore.” “Can you at least wait until you graduate high school?” she asked me. “And the mating ball is coming up. Perhaps you could find your mate.” “I don’t know if I am a werewolf, mom,” I reminded her, standing up, walking towards the entrance. “Who says that I will find my mate? Maybe I’m an elf, or a witch, or even a damn dragon! We don’t know what Laramie is!” “We will find out soon enough,” mom said to me. She stood up and walked over to me, placing her hand on my cheek. “We will find out your true identity. But regardless of what you are, you will always be my daughter, and I will love both you and Laramie with all my heart, no matter what.” I gave her a small smile, quickly hugged her, and I left the cave. I walked down the path towards the pack house. My stomach grumbled, and it was telling me it was time to eat. So, I picked up my pace, hoping to get there before all the food was gone. Suddenly, Reagan was going insane in my head. “Stop!” She told me. I stopped in my tracks in the middle of the path. It was quiet, but it felt like I was being watched. “Anyone out there?” I yelled out, hoping I was just imagining this. Reagan was going crazy, pacing in my head. “Reagan, what the hell is going on?” I asked her, getting pissed about her games. Reagan appeared a year and a half ago, when it was my true sixteenth birthday. She wouldn’t tell me what I was or wouldn’t shift so I could find out what she was. All she kept on telling me was I would have to wait until I found my mate. She wouldn’t answer me, just kept on pacing. Her pacing was giving me a headache. Done with the games, I continued towards the pack house, making Reagan growl at me. “You were calming him down,” she growled at me. “Now, someone will die!” “Who the f**k are you talking about?” I asked her as I continued to the house. She wouldn’t answer me, so I just blocked her, not wanting to listen to her nonsense. I walked into the dining room, and my family filled our tables. Uncle Lykeon had to order two gigantic tables for our family, so everyone could sit together and enjoy our meals. Mom came from an enormous family — eight kids in total. Over the years, the family grew by leaps and bounds, with seventeen grandkids, with seven more with Aunt Kassandra at the Elwha Pack, where she is the Luna. “Where were you?” Wade asked me as I sat down at the kids’ table with my plate. “The waterfall,” I answered him, taking a bite of my penne. “You love going there, don’t you?” my cousin, Auggie, asked me. “It’s tranquil, and allows me to think,” I answered him. We all sat there, talking, when all the sudden, someone dumped a plate of pasta and marinara sauce all over my head, spilling down onto my clothes. Not f*****g again. There was laughter behind me, and I turned around, with Shannon and her friends standing behind me, laughing and pointing at me. Uncle Lykeon saw what happened, along with Julian and Leif. The three of them marched over, grabbing Shannon and her friends by their arms. “What the f**k do you think you are doing to my niece?” my uncle growled at her. The smile on her face instantly disappeared. “It was an accident, Alpha,” she lied, trying to get free. “Tell me the f*****g truth!” he said, using his Alpha command. Shit is going to hit the fan with her now. “Honestly, Alpha, we don’t know why you allow these freaks to run around the pack,” she smirked at my uncle. “We don’t know who they truly are, and for all we know, they could work for The Hunters, or someone who is out to destroy the pack. Why would you allow them to run free amongst us, knowing that they could put everyone’s lives in danger?” “They are not freaks for one,” Uncle Julian growled at her. “Two, we accept everyone in the pack, regardless of what species they are. We are not just werewolves here; we are witches, elves, and humans. We accept Laken and Laramie regardless of what they are!” “Don’t say we didn’t warn you!” Brenda, one of Shannon’s friends, spat at Julian. “There is a law against bullying in the pack,” Lykeon reminded them. “And it is punishable by death. I think the four of you need some time in the prison. Then, I will decide your punishments.” The warriors came over and grabbed Shannon and her friends and led them out of the dining room. The girls were screaming, begging my uncles to spare their lives. “Come on, sweetheart,” my Aunt Summer said to me, putting her arm around me. “Let’s take you upstairs and get you cleaned up.” She and my mom led me out of the dining room to the elevators to allow me to get cleaned up and change my clothes.
