Devon’s POV
I felt bad for not telling Laken about my status, but I wanted to make sure she wanted me for me, instead of my status and money. When I introduced Laken to my mother as the queen, she was in shock, not believing I came from royalty. I will explain to her before dinner the reason I didn’t tell her who I truly was.
After introducing Laken to my mother and brother, I went up to see father. He was up in their suite, with a home nurse taking care of him. He was sitting in his favorite spot, on the balcony overlooking the gardens. Father looked pale, more than usual, but in good spirits.
“Hello, father,” I said to him, hugging him from behind. “Are you trying to give mother a heart attack?” He chuckled, patting my arm, which was across his chest.
